I red cross usually indicates an SD card problem.
With most tomtom's usually removeing the SD card and powering up will resolve the issue.

If not then a HARD reset without the SD card may be called for.

If it does prove to be an SD card error then formatting in a proper card reader using FAT32 as the file system and then copying the files back over from the tomtom usually does the trick.

Or format and restore from a back up to the card. can work too.

It may also mean that a files might have been deleted or become corrupted.

Ok check and see if your gps has memory card in a slot on the gps (about an inch long and maybe 1/8" wide)

If it has then push the card into the gps and let go
it should come out a little to allow you to remove it.
(do that with the power off !)

power up the gps again and if it works the card is a minor fault that can usualyy be fixed by you pretty easily.

If it still does not come on properly then look for a tiny hole near the SD slot

Get a paper clip and and with the gps switched on pust it into that hole keeping the paper clip straight (dont push too hard)

Hold it for about 3 seconds and release.
your gps should reset itself.

If it stays off try to power it up.

It should now power up but you may have to tell it all your personal settings again.

The tomtoms don't die too often compared to other makes

and even when they lock up they can usually be brought back to life

This would suggest the card may be faulty. If you have a backup of the info on the card, try formatting the card and restoring the data.

You have to go into the card on your computer and create a folder called mp3, and a folder called pics. Then your TomTom will see them.

Tom Tom Go 520 can not connect to PC.

I had the same problem with a 750.
I cured it (accidentally I must add) by inserting a memory card.
I guess the last time I connected and disconnected the 750 it had a memory card in and without one inserted it would not recognise the device.
Strange reason but worked for me.

When i turn on the tom tom one

I saved the map on to my computer from the tom tom in Tom Tom Home and installed it on to a new SD card and now it working perfectly. I bought a 2mb SD card for £6.70 put it into a card reader and connected to computer and installed map and it gave me the instructions to put into device (Tom Tom) and switch on to connect then off and back into card reader to finish. Then I disconnected device which is important to do by the way put the new Sd card into Tom Tom and it is workink perfectly. I hope this help others who have problems.

Memory card

Replace the SD Card.

Unfortunately not all card makes are compatible. ie: Tesco own brand being one

Good and reliable make is KINGSTON

Put your dodgy card into a pc card ready, copy and paste the data onto the new card.

If that doesn't work then I would say you have a tempromental card reader in your SatNav and need a replacement.

Let me know how you get on.

Tom Tom XL

The One XL can only read from internal OR sd card...
So, if you want the device to boot from the sd card, it need system files installed on the sd card...

So, try this:
- BACKUP !!
- Copy ALL content from internal memory to sd card.
- Insert sd card, and boot the device.

It should know boot from sd card, not internal memory...
