Question about La Pavoni Stove-top Espresso Maker "SPENDIDA" Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Do you have an instruction manual for the LaPavoni bellman stovetop espresso/cappucino maker? I'm wondering, after filling with water and ground espresso, do I close both valves and then turn the flame on underneath? How do I know when it's time to open the espresso valve?

I need instructions for a Cuisinart Iced Cappuccino Maker

I have a PDF of the user manual if you want me to e-mail it to you. In the meantime, here is my Wiki Manual (BTW, pagan, the machine does make hot espresso or cappucino, but it doesn't froth per se like a regular espresso machine - it just heats the milk internally and dumps it into the espresso):

General Directions for Making Iced Cappuccinos
- Place carafe on top of drip/tray grate with handle touching right front of ICAPP – the ice fill lines should be visible when looking at front of unit
- Turn “milk knob” to OPEN position, and open lid of ICAPP
- Remove milk container, espresso collector, espresso spinner cup and cover
- Put espresso collector back in place with two plastic teeth facing front of machine
- There is a stepped fill line inside water reservoir that measures off 1,2, and 4 cups
- Fill water reservoir with either 1,2 or 4 fill line cups – do not overfill to avoid damaging the electronics
- Add espresso grounds to espresso spinner cup
- Line up teeth of spinner cup cover with spinner cup so that the cover locks into place
- Fill milk reservoir with 3 oz of milk per cup of iced cappuccino that you plan to make – there is a fill line that measures off 2 cups or 4 cups
- Fill carafe with either 2 cups worth of ice or 4 cups, depending on how much iced cappuccino you plan to make
- Press down on lid and turn milk knob to HEAT postion
- Turn ICAPP on using the ON/OFF button – it will begin to heat – takes about 5-6 minutes (HEAT light will stay on during this process – doesn’t make noise or steam for several minutes)
- When READY light turns green, turn the milk knob to the DISPENSE MILK position – your espresso and milk will start dispensing
- Unit turns itself off automatically when ready – takes several minutes

I just got a Classic Coffee Concepts cappucino maker cc1812 from a friend who moved to India. There is no instruction manual with it and I never owned a cappucino machine in my life! Do you have one? I...

Coffee brewers prior to electricity at home were pretty much regulated to a pot on stove or fire situation. Pictured is a brief pictorial history of brewers through the past 200 years.

Your first mention of a cappucino maker cc1812 brought this image to mind:

But remembering my WWII history the American soldiers asked for 'Coffee' but got espresso from the Italians. They described large boilers with steam and hot water usually heated by fire. I'm guessing India didn't have electricity in 1812.
The movie 'Lawrence of Arabia' shows a simple metal cup heated over fire with finely ground coffee spooned in and stirred. Didn't see any milk (camel/goat?) around, though I suppose they could pour it in as the British like milk with tea.

If your brewer is of the stove top 'pot' type, it's usually shaped like a figure 8. Most of the modern models have a boiler bottom that is filled with water. You then add coffee to the middle in a basket that drops on top of the boiler. there is a lid that screws on or sometimes a well cap that will capture the brewed coffee that will fill the top portion.
Assembled and placed on stove/fire the pot will boil and force the water and steam through the coffee and collect in the top or out of a spout to be collected in a cup.

Most problems with on stove brewers are the rubber seals broken or missing. Needless to say the company or person that created this item may not be around for parts. Identifying your part and comparing it to espresso parts may be your only recourse.
Suggest upgrading to a more modern version with an old style look to keep in line with the 'Antique ambiance'. Aloha! ukeboy57
