Question about Verbatim 160GB USB FireLite: The "drive for perfection" is built into our line of FireLite portable external ... 160 GB Hard Drive
Unable to connect the Verbatim 160GB to my computer it just flashes blue. My computer does not pick up the connection and therefore it is not displayed in My Computer.
Most people find that when they plug the Verbatim 160gb hard drive into their computer it won't show up. I fixed mine and it works great! As part of my question yesterday I thought it to be a formatting issue and it is. This hard drive is pre-formatted for Apple and not Windows so if you are using Windows you are going to have to reformat the HDD. It's not difficult, just takes some time. It took me about 15 minutes to find the solution.
Ok, bare with me as I did this half asleep and with some trial and error until I figured it out.
First, right click on the "my computer" shortcut on your desktop and click on "manage." Should be about the 4th option down from the top. Once you click on "manage" find "storage" on the directory tree to the left and then click on "disk management." Once you click on this you will see 3 window panes to include the directory on the left. On the bottom pane you will see your drives and one that says "unallocated" and "not initialized." Click on that drive to initialize it. Once it says "online" right click to format. Mine about an hour or so. Once it is done formatting it should work.
If you have any problems or need more clarification email me at Mitty140@gmail.com and I will work it again on my drive for more complete instructions.

I had a similar problrm with a smartdisk 250 gig drive. Initially when it was drawing power from the USB port, it did nor show up as an installed drive. When I added an external power supply made by Smartdisk it worked fine. Perhaps you need an external power supply?
