Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

When I try to run a Diagnostic Test, either manual or auto mode, the door locks and that is it. The indicator is flashing on the rinse/spin cycle and when you try to cancel the test. It flashes at the drain/spin. The door switch has been replace and all connector on the CCU have been check. Switches for the door and its locking mechanism show close at the CCU wire connectors. ERROR codes are F21, which the pump was replaced two weeks ago & F28, which happens when the test was running and I manual unlocked the door. The wash is a Whirlpool WFW8500SR00

SOURCE: F28 error plus Diagnostics tests

have you checked the motors 3- phase windings for a short circuits,it sounds as this may be a factor in your problem each lead 1&3/2&3/1&2 should show 6 ohms each when unplugged from the MCU and checked individually, from the burn marks in this area of the MCU I would say the motor winding(s) are shorted, and the rest of the unit is shutting down to protect the new board

SOURCE: F28 error plus Diagnostics tests

First the simple solution.Simply pull out (remove) the detergent tray, reach all the way back with your hand and feel for a lever, pull it forward. Given the nature of the F28 error, which indicated the two boards are no longer talking, look at the connections on both the motor control and main control boards along with the wiring harness between the two. The motor controller may be bad.
Motor control boards are used on front load washers to simply control the motor. Most of these motors are three phase AC or DC motors which means they have three windings instead of just one. By properly applying current to these three windings, the motor controller can spin the motor in both directions and at a large range of speeds. The motor controller can also apply the breaks to the motor to slow it down using nothing but electricity.
F28 is also failure of main board to pressure switch circuit. I would bet you their is trash in that hose and the water pressure won't activate the switch while it fills. Just guessing
One more easy try is Remove the front panel. If the flip-top cover to the right of the drain assembly is popped up, then simply pop it back down. This cover holds the wire connectors into the terminals and often pops back up when the machine agitates

SOURCE: Kenmore HE2 stopped mid-cycle. When

This appears to be a problem with the MCU and not the CCU as what has already been found. First, make sure the serial communication connection between the MCU and the CCU is intact, clean, and snug fit. But it seems that you have done all that. The one and simple way to determine whether it is the MCU or CCU is disconnecting the serial communication connection between the two then starting the machine or running the diagnostic test.

The problem is indeed the MCU if the machine seems to work fine with the MCU disconnected except for motor powered functions or the diagnostic test progresses successfully but eventually flashes F28 code (or any other code pertaining to a motor or MCU problem) after the dispenser motor, dispenser contact, hot water inlet valve, and pressure switch test or when the test enters the MCU and motor tests. Replace the MCU then. The problem is the CCU or both if the machine still behaves the same after the MCU is disconnected. Replace the CCU then the MCU if the machine behaves the same after the CCU is replaced. This troubleshooting technique has worked for me all the times the symptoms are like yours and it turned out to be the MCU.

SOURCE: Trying to run diagnostics on

Hello,
What to check next is if the switches on the lower panel below the one where the door mounts, check that when the panel is off that those switch are closed and have ZERO omhs resistiance and the are open when panel is installed. To do the DISCONNECT POWER TO WASHER, remove that panel and check for continuty with the panel off them, then push the switch in as if the panel was on and see if the switches are open with infinate ohms.
If they check to be good ,since of you have already checked for tight good connections on CCU/MCU the MCU would need to be replaced.

Good luck,
Gene

Washer will not run or complete a diagnostic.

1. The washing machine needs to be plugged in and in stand by mode with all indicators off.
2. Choose any one button on the washer's console except Power, Start, or Stop. Press/Hold 3 Seconds - Release 3 Seconds - Press/Hold 3 Seconds - Release 3 Seconds - Press/Hold 3 Seconds.
3. If the diagnostic test mode has been successfully entered, all of the indicator lights will glow for five seconds with 88 on the time display. (If it didn't work try #2 again One one thousand...Two one thousand...Three one thousand)
4. If there are any saved fault codes they will be displayed. If there are no save fault codes all indicator lights will turn off for a moment then back on with 88 displayed and the automatic diagnostic test mode will begin in five seconds.
5. If you are unable to enter the diagnostic test mode, press the power button and verify that the button you were trying to use operates properly to program the washer's cycle function. There may be something wrong with that function button. Find another button on the control that appears to work and try to enter the diagnostic mode with that button. You may also want to verify that the user interface has a good connection to the washing machine control board at the P11 terminal.

Note: Pressing the STOP or POWER button at any time to exit the washing machine's diagnostic mode.

The machine control through the rotor position sensor (RPS) cannot detect the motor running. The rotor is stuck, the rotor position sensor is faulty, or the machine control is malfunctioning. Open the lid and turn the drum manually. If it turns freely, activate the Manual Diagnostic Mode Test to check the functionality of the rotor position sensor and the machine control. If it doesn't turn freely, let us know to guide you in troubleshooting and repairing it.

The machine should be in standby mode when activating diagnostic test mode. That is, the machine is plugged in will all indicators off, or with only the Clothes Clean indicator on.

Choose any single button except Start, Stop, and Power. Press and hold the chosen button for 3 seconds and release it for 3 seconds; press it again for another 3 seconds and release it for another 3 seconds; press the same button again for another 3 seconds and release it (press, release, press, release, press; 3 seconds each).

The indicators will all light up for 5 seconds with 88 displayed in the Estimated Time Remaining display if the test mode has been successfully entered.

Repeat the procedure if the test mode is not activated. You may choose another button. Let us know if it cannot be activated after multiple attempts failed.

Press the same button chosen above before the indicators turn off (5 seconds). A single beep sounds and the two-digit console ID number is displayed. After 3 seconds the display is cleared (00) and the Add a Garment indicator flashes.

Open the lid and rotate the basket manually. The Wash, Rinse, and Spin status indicators should toggle on and off according to the rotation of the basket.

Press and release the 2nd Rinse button to lock the lid and the lid lock indicator turns on. Press and release the Rinse Speed button. The basket should spin slowly; pressing it again will raise the spin speed. The motor turns off and the basket stops the fourth time the Rinse Speed button is pressed.

With the basket stopped, press the Soil Level button to activate the Gentle wash action. Press it again to activate the Normal wash action. Press it again to activate the Heavy wash action. Press it again to turn off the motor and stop the basket.

Let us know the result of the test for us to guide you in troubleshooting the problem and eventually repair it.

There is a manual way to unlock door. I copyed this from the tech sheet.
Manually Unlocking the
Door Lock System
1. Unplug the power cord from
the outlet.
2. Remove the lower kick panel.
3. Reach up along the inside of
the front and locate the bottom
of the door switch/lock unit.

a ¼” or until a click is heard.

Also there is a test procedure you can run to check the door lock actuator.

 Close the door.
 Push CONTROL/ON (if present on

proceed as listed above.
When the washer is in the Service Mode, the speed
will be displayed as a two digit number or a letter/

Quick Spin Test
While in service mode, the pressing of spin key shall
