    Thanks love.

We had an AEG, which was easier to repair cos you went in the back. This thing is just like the Creda... (didnt realise when I bought it that its the same company!!!!! doh!

and that one was a pain, but we did it in the end..

I really appreciate your help and I will contact you if it starts to go haywire.. (praying as I write that it doesnt!)

I think this one lasted about 5 years before the bearings have gone, the AEG went in 18 months, and 4 times in total over 6 years!

Hi there, finally finished, wrong bearings were sent!

Everything went really well, and no other parts were affected.

Thanks for your help love.. much appreciated and your tips on what to look for (wear) were spot on.

Cleaned all the drum and everything so it went together like a new machine...!

Not always the wise thing to do, as reconditioned brooms usually fail in this house!

    Many thanks

    Sue

Im afraid its a sign of the times, people would much rather moan than encourage. You are doing a great job on here, and saving folk a lot of hassle on the whole.

My husband used to sell cookers a few years ago. He was called out on Christmas day. They were just cooking the turkey when the cooker went bang (not one of ours) so they looked in the paper and phoned to ask if we could possibly save their day and deliver a cooker. I sent hubby out, grumbling as he went, and told him "They will be so happy, it wont take you long"

He arrived back an hour later, the couple did nothing but complain all the time he was fitting the cooker... cos they had to hand over their beer money they had allocated!

That was the first and the last time we answered calls on Christmas morning.

So you see, maybe your clients arent that bad... Having a machine repaired is always an unexpected expense, and you get the blame!! :o)

Keep your chin up. At the end of the day its all about knowing your own worth. No one can detract from that.

    Yours

    Sue

You have to stand for what you know is right. Things are tight in business and companies have to diversify, but too often that means they loose their heart.

My daughter works for a firm who have branched into photography and its sending the whole works into a tail spin, the managing director has already had a heart attack. The staff know it will come to an end cos its more hassle than the rest of the trade put together for less profit. Problem is that those closest to the control are usually in so deep they are the last to see it going ape!

At the end of the day, when you leave and get another position all this will be history. You arent your job, you just do it to the best of your ability.

All the very best for the future.

Sue.. and I really appreciate the Cyber hug.... :oD

Hiya
these bearings come as a kit so the front, rear and the seal would all be replaced. as a rough guide the company i work for would charge roughly £70. thats if its just the bearings, sometimes you may need the shaft on the back of the drum replaced as well and possibly the heater depending on how badly they are gone.

hope this helps

please dont forget to rate the helpfulness of this reply thanks kj

    cheers sue

that last comment makes doing this all worthwhile, this country needs more people like you in it, unfortunatly it's not the clients that are causing my problems (though i do get them lol), its bad management, trying to guide the company into territories it was never intended to be and cannot survive in (designed to help low income families have quality goods at low prices) instead they trying to compete with curry's and comet etc. so it's time to move on and find pastures new. (the joys of morals and beliefs, he he )

anyhow i'm sending a big online hug to you and a big online pat on the back to your better half for fixing the washer lol.

    thanks again

How can you tell if the u joint is bad on your washer

There are no U joints on a neptune. If it is noisy in a spin the bearings have had water in them the rear triple lip seal has worn out letting water get into bearings. I charge $325.00 to replace the bearings, seal, and new shaft. It is a 3 to 4 hour job.

Tip

Hi JS, This is nothing to do with the overflowing problem, but its the only post...

This advice is for a washer that fills and will not shut off, resulting in an overflow. Or, water is leaking from the washer while filling. The symptoms can apply to either a TOP LOADER or FRONT LOADER washer. This may be able to save you from an expensive service call by making these simple visual checks.

Water Does Not Shut Off and Overflows: The water level in a washer is controlled by the Pressure Switch. The switch is usually cylindrical in shape and has an electrical connection and an air hose attached. In many cases, the small air hose comes loose from the Pressure Switch fitting and/or falls off. This air hose is required to detect the air pressure from the wash tub as tub fills. With no air pressure, the switch will not function and the result will be a wash tub that fills continuously to the point of overflowing. The same would be true, if the air hose has any cracks, splits or holes in it.

Water Leaking While Filling: The other end of this hose runs to the air dome fitting on the side of the wash tub. If the lower end of the hose comes off, the water will begin to spill onto the floor under the washer, but the tub will not fill.

What to Look For: Check for the obvious. Make sure the air hose is still attached to the pressure switch and air dome. Then, inspect the entire length of the hose, paying particular attention to areas where chaffing may occur and at the points where the hose connects to the pressure switch and air dome. Vibrations from the washer can cause some wear if the hose is rubbing against anything, and the ends of the hose can stretch over time and not seal properly.

On most top loaders the Pressure Switch is located inside the operator console behind the knob that controls the water level. This knob is commonly referred to as the “Load Level”, “Load Size” or “Water Level”. On front loader washers the pressure switch location is usually located in the back of the washer behind the wash tub, or along the interior cabinet wall adjacent to the wash tub.

How to Correct: If the hose has slipped off, cut about ½” off the end of the hose and reattach to the pressure switch and/or air dome fitting. Take a small zip tie and place it around the hose at the point where it connects to the fitting. DO NOT over tighten as this can damage the air hose fitting. Just make the zip tie snug enough to keep the air hose from sliding off. If the hose has any cracks or holes, you can attempt to seal them by using electrical tape. Replacement tubing can be purchased at any hardware store.

NOTE: This is not an all inclusive fix, as the Pressure Switch can fail in some cases and cause similar symptoms. This is merely a preliminary check for a common occurrence that I have discovered. It can give symptoms of a major problem, resulting in a call for a repairman, only to turn out to be a simple fix that any Do-It-Yourselfer should be able to check and correct themselves. I hope this information is found to be helpful and saves many of you a future service call.

Washing machine making a knocking sound

On this washer the problem is the washer drum rear bearing is worn out, a common problem and often caused by not using the correct detergent for a front loader, detergent is very corrosive, so special types are used in front loads to prevent soap residue corroding the drum bearing. Once the bearing go out then the struts that cushion the drum during the spin quickly follow.

Model 708 has a high speed bearing noise during rinse cycle Can bearings be replaced?

Hello,Here is how to tell if it is the rear bearing. Open the door, grab the inner drum and see if you can move it while not moving the outer tub. If you can, then the rear bearing is bad. Fridgidaire doesn't sell the rear bearing by itself, they sell the rear outer tub shell, also when this happens the shaft on the inner drum is worn and has to be replaced. I have seen this repair cost as much as 600 dollars USF to do this repair. What causes this is using too much or high sudsing detergent. The rear seal is a water seal, however suds will wick pass the seal like a light grade oil. Also water will not remove the grease from the rear bearings, however detergent is designed to do just that. You may try calling Fridgidaire and see if they will at least provide the parts at No Charge.

Thanks

On the final spin the washing machine is so loud you cant even be in the same room as it, it is not vibrating externally as far as i can tell

Remove rear access panel, and remove the drive belt.
Spin drum by hand, and if it feels rough or noisy, then the main drum bearings have failed, if no noise, then check motor for noise, if no noise, check the concrete wieghts are not loose, and that the dampers are not broken or worn.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Wash is still wet after spin cycle

Hi!

If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.

Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician

For further assistance need your machines model no.

Thanks

Hotpoint aquarius 1100 bangs while spinning

Several possible reasons for this. M/C not level, causing it to move about.
Overloading of m/c.
Loose concrete balance weight, there is one at top and one at bottom.
Suspension spring broken or unhooked.
Suspension leg loose or broken.
Main drum bearings worn, to check this, turn drum by hand and if it feels noisy or rough , then bearings have gone (expensive repair).
There are other possible causes, but these are the main reasons.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Dru wont turn at all

Hi, welcome to Fixya.

The belt has come off for a reason, and there are a few reasons for it to do so.

1- You have overloaded the m/c
2- It is not draining properly.
3- The main drum bearings have gone. Before replacing the belt spin the drum by hand, and if it is noisy or feels rough , then the bearings have gone.
That means calling an engineer.
4- Worn or broken belt.
To refit the belt, do the following.
Remove top cover, and rear panel.
Tilt the m/c forwards, and support it.
Reach inside and slip the belt over the motor pulley, then start feeding the belt round the drum pulley, it is fiddley, but this is the only way, as you get the belt futher round, it will get very tight, so don't trap your fingers, just keep on going.
If it slips off, start again.
Goodluck.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks, And a merry xmas.

HE3T - Rear Tub Bearing Evaluation

you can't really see damage to a worn bearing but if you have removed the drum, then you should always replace the bearings.
drum would not normally need replacing if bearings are worn.
