Sounds like the compressor is dead, or that it works and there was a leak in a line somewhere and your coolant is gone. If it's an old one and you're not able to do the work yourself to replace the compressor or coolant, whatever one it is, you might want to toss it or give it away.

Kenmore model 596 72913200 freezer works but fridge not getting cold

This will be an air flow problem from the damper failing. Usually what happens is, the air vent is not allowing air to pass at the damper due to the motor not opening and allowing the cold air to pass into the refrigerator side. A good way to check it is, to feel the amount of air coming out of the vent between the freezer and the refrigerator. If the air flow seems slow, or no air at all, replace the damper to restore air flow to the refrigerator. Here is the part you need to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

Refrigerator section not getting cold - air vents not blocked - cold air coming into freezer but not out of vent at top/rear of fridge

Evaporator fan may not be running. This fan distributes cold air throughout the freezer and to the refrigerator. The fan is likely located behind an access plate at the top of the freezer. If it's running, you should be able to hear it. If you can't hear it, open the access plate and look at it. If it's not turning, you will likely have to replace the fan motor.

Freezer too cold, fridge not working - Amana freezer on bottom

Something tells me you are right.
I'm sure you know that cold air seeks the lowest point, in your case, the freezer drawer.
About every combination unit I have ever seen uses a fan to 'stir' the air in a controlled manner and one or more adjustable vents to allow you to balance the distribution of the cooled air.
I'd place my bet on the failure of a (possibly Chinese) fan motor that isn't turning anymore.

Freezer is cooling but the refrigerator is not cold

This setup uses a fan to push air around to distribute the cold air. It sounds as if your fan isn't running anymore.
It may not be a lot of fun to access it for replacement or lubrication which might be the problem. This type of fan motor normally uses a phosphor-bronze bearing with graphite embedded and while they shouldn't ever need oil, this type of bearing has tendency to get sticky over time eventually jamming the motor shaft.
Modern motors are 'impedence protected' so they don't 'burn up' anymore but do get hot.
What you might try is to check Sears parts section to see if your model is listed for replacement parts (they sell parts for about every US brand) and they may have an illustration of your fridge that shows you how you can access the fan.

Refrigerator not cold/Freezer cold.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp .

.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Refrigerator not cool freezer working

Rick,

This is the generic answer. Use the hair dryer (below) and reset the defrost (look for instructions from Sea Breeze)

Most of these units work with the freezer providing all of the cooling and a thermostat in the refrigerator section controlling a fan in the freezer (where the fan directs cold air from the freezer section to the refrigerator section via a duct in the back).

Look at the rear area of the refirgerator and locate a vent. This vent receives cold air from the freezer to the refirgerator. If you feel cold air coming out of this vent, then there may be no problem, just wait a few hours and recheck the refrigerator temperature.

Look at the rear area of the freezer and locate a vent. This vent provides cold air from the freezer to the refirgerator. Shine a bright light into this vent. You should see fan blades (possibly black plastic). If there is ice on the blades, then you have a defrost problem, and look to other posts on this site for how to manually defrost (or reset the automatic defrost). If the fan blades are rotating, then there is probably a blockage in the duct. Direct a hair dryer (warm setting) through the rear freezer vent and check to see if there is very warm air flowing out of the refrigerator vent (which indicates that the duct is not blocked). While using the hair dryer, you may be able to see the fan blades rotating.

If you do not feel warm air flowing out of the refrigerator vent, then run the hair dryer for a few minutes. (this was my problem, I saw no moisture drip from the vent, which led me to believe that it was more of a dry ice buildup, or that the ice was evaporated (desublimed to be technical).

If there is air flow and no ice buildup on the fan, then reset the automatic defrost. If this is not your solution, either the thermostat or the fan motor is the problem.

The refrigerator is not getting or staying cold enough. the freezer seems to working ok

Check the vent at the top of the shared refrigerator wall for cold air from the freezer. If not, then you can either replace the motorized flap inside the vent or prop the flap open with a stick or something. The manual solution won't harm anything. The motorized flap is an over-engineered solution designed to create service calls. :<)
