Has a 2001 PT got a filter or system conditioner in the cooling system, and can you run it with just water for a couple of days, and if not, what damage will it cause? Reply to jackstephenson54@live.com.au. Thanks.

Do not run without coolant, at least 50/50 water , coolant. The coolant also acts as a lubericant inside the water pump. If you seize that up, you will blow up your motor before you realize whats happening. If you plan on keeping it for a while get yourself a cheap code scanner, or a good repair manual from a parts store. The manual will tell you how to use a jumper wire , and a multi meter to pull your codes. I just pulled codes today in my 89' mercury, fixed the problem, and didnt cost me anything but my time.

Kenmore air conditioner (Mdl # 580.75124500) runs and cools for about 10 minutes then stops cooling.

The thermostat sensing tube that is pushed into the fins on the evaporator coil may have to me moved closer to the bottom of the coil. The tube is filled with freon, so in time it may be starting to leak out. Replace the thermostat.

2001 astro van will not start when engine is hot. If I pour water to cool engine or wait a couple of hours it cranks right up. It will run all day if I do not turn it off. Any ideas?

this is an indication of a fuel vapour lock in the fuel system. Run the fault codes and look for problems in the canister system and EGR sections

2001 Rodeo 2.8 Turbo Diesel running perfectly one day won't run the next. Seems to be after it sits for a couple of days. Any suggestions?

Hi Peter, If the vehicle turns on the starter all the time, and sometimes starts and other times fails, check the fuel filter for leakage. Sometimes air gets into the fuel system. When it gives problems, open the bonnet (hood) and have someone pump the pump on top of the filter housing. If it feels soft when beginning to pump, I would suspect either a leakage on the fuel line or the filter housing. If you need to replace the housing and filter, remember to fill the replacement filter with clean diesel fuel first. the glow plugs can also cause problems if one or more have burned out. Water is boiling when moter is turned off and the water looks rusty but is not over heating 2001 pt crusier

Drain, FLUSH ENGINE and replace coolant with 50/50 pre-diluted antifreeze. You should never have rusty looking coolant, some one has obviously put water in the coolant system at some point. NEVER put just water into a cooling system. ALWAYS use 50/50 antifreeze/coolant ONLY of the type recommended by manufacturer. Poor coolant system maintenance will cause overheating and subsequent cooling system parts damage and engine damage/failure.

2001 PT cruiser overheating.

Note that you will not damage anything unless you don't turn it off when it gets too hot.

So start the car and let is idle to get warm - have the hood open and see if the fans come on. If the temp goes past normal and fans do not kick on, it's usually the fan relay (~$20) - these usually sit in the engine compartment fuse box. Also check the fan fuses - there should be two of them. If that doesn't work, then it would be the temp sensor.

However if your heater is blowing cold when the car is warm, sounds like there is an air-lock. This happens if you don't 'burp' the cooling system properly after flushing the system. Easiest way to check on this is if either the lower or upper radiator hose is not hot when the engine is hot.

Incidentally, if the thermostat is shot, you would not be able to 'burp' the system properly.

My bet is either the thermostat or airlock - or both.

More info on water cooled system. It's a climatemaster genesis compact series. Does the pt plugs control the water flow into the condensor units. I have a unit that does not cool correctly. My readings are...

The water will be controlled by a Belimo water valve. If the unit has too little water flow, the water leaving the unit will be exceptionally warm/hot.

If it is low on freon, the water will not be as hot as normally is.

Air conditioner

If the air flow is restricted or partially blocked (dirty cooling fins, filter etc), ice will form inside becaue the air stays in ithe cooling coil or fils for a long period of time. Lack of freon will not cause Ice formation because there is not enough cooling power.
