Question about Toshiba Satellite A10-S129 Notebook

3 Answers

I have a Toshiba Satellite A10-S129. It was working with 256 MB (2 x 128 MB). I wanted to upgrade it to 512 MB (2 x 256 MB). I bought 2 new 256 Modules and when changed it and turned on screen has never come up. I tried turning on and connecting to a desktop monitor and did not work. When I turn it on I see all light in the front panel lighted and listen a sound like the fan is working but screen never comes up. Thanks

If you get several beeps then there is a video problem. The video card uses shared RAM (part of the main RAM) and if the RAM is faulty the laptop won't boot up.
You might have incompatible RAM, try to use the same make and speed RAM as the original.
One of the RAM modules may be faulty.
Try installing one 256Mb RAM module then boot up the Toshiba, if it works the try the other RAM module.

According to Crucial's website, (crucial.com) your laptop can support up to 1 GB of PC2700, DDR RAM; since it's a laptop you will want a sodimm. After disconnecting power and removing battery, (ALWAYS DISCONNECT POWER AND REMOVE BATTERY WHEN ADDING OR REMOVING BATTERY) I would recommend that you remove the two modules, inspect them and make sure they are PC2700 DDR modules, It doesn't sound like your system is able to recognize the RAM you installed. This could be either due to a compatibility problem or perhaps one of the modules is bad. If they are the correct part, install one module in slot "a" (usually they are marked, if not disregard, and choose one slot.) Connect power and test. If it works, repeat with the other memory on the same slot. If it doesn't switch it out and put that one aside for now; if the other one works, then you probably have a bad module. You can pursue a warranty claim or at least ask for an exchange on it.
If neither one works, you either have an incompatible speed (pc3200 does not always work reliably in all units), or although unlikely, you could have 2 bad modules, or an incompatible style (like error checking or registered modules.) Once again, I would contact the vendor and make them aware of the problem; if they were purchased recently you should have no problem getting an exchange.

Toshiba Satellite 1805-s253 memory upgrade

Usually this means it supports 512 mb of "Single sided" ram, which is rarer and more expensive... the usual ram you buy now is double-sided.. which will often only see one of the sides in older machines.

I have a Satellite 2405-S221 and I was wondering if the max memory i can install is 512K, is there a way to update the bios, or ANYTHING to increase that amount to at least 1 gig??

Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop to up to a maximum of 512 MB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed.

In short.... yeah, 512k is the max.

Doesn't appear to a bios limitation. It is a hardware issue that is limiting the amount.
