I'd suggest you to do TWO things:
1. to check the BULK/SPAM folder too; maybe the messages got there. It happens sometimes even the senders are people you are communicating with many times;
2. verify if the last few days the server(s) where your e-mail account was created on were not DOWN. It happens too many times - even with well-known web sites. This case you even may write a message to the site administrator (usually the address is something like "email@example.com/net/org/etc.") and ask him if the last few days the servers had had some technical problems.
