Question about Toshiba Satellite A205-S4617 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Satellite A20 that does not start up. I just installed XP in a new HD from the original set of Toshiba CDs, however the Notebook does not recognize the HD. I installed the HD in an external enclosure and the other PC can see it.

Yes. I went to the Bios to check it... the option was still boot from HDD...

According with the label on the HDD, if there is no JUMPER, it means the HD is set as master... and no, it does not have any jumper...

Yesterday I tried again and I was able to reinstall the XP software again... however when I turn on the A20 the system does not recognize the HD... I installed the HD in a external enclosure connected it to another notebook trhu USB port to another computer without problem... I can see it...

Wow. i just dealt with this yeserday for somebody. we had to reformat the hard drive while it was in the external inclosure and then re install it on the computer. BUT FIRST check the connections when you put it in. that laptop was the most pain in the but to get the hard drive to seat properly.

let me know

Actually, the HD was formatted in the store, after, I installed it in the Notebook and I installed the XP. However, after the installation finished, I restarted the computer but it does not recognized the HD because send the message "insert a OS diskette"

It's weird, the notebook recognized the HD because allow me to install XP, but does not recognize the HD to start up / load XP.

did you change the boot options to boot from hard drive first you can do that by entering your bios and changeing boot order or i think hit f12

Forgot bios password on satellite 1805-s274

If you are the original owner, Toshiba will unlock the bios code for a fee $100.00 a cheaper approach, go to Type: bios password this will take you into a list of sellers to choose from, I suggest one that deals with Toshiba, "better chance of success"

I have a Toshiba Satellite A20 i have changed mz hard drive from 40gb to 160gb my original windows was windows xp home edition english version now i have installed window xp in german mz problem is now...

It's a driver problem, Check here, click on refine search by: Operative system, check Windows XP, then on the other option click on Display, you'll see 3 options for download, download and install all 3 of them, maybe you'll need to reboot, then you can change you resolution to fit your needs.

I have problum dvd writer

is the DVD writer the original unit in the notebook ? if not usre, refer to the manual -- if you dont have manual, go here (it will cost a little )

before you format, try replacing the DVD writer another unit similar

buy recovery CDs here

i would restore the notebook to factory settings -- this is the best option in getting the computer back to the way it worked originally going to the factory settings management portion in the system and or use your recovery CDs to format and re isntall everything

It is not clear what you mean by restore here... do you want to salvage you r personal data on laptop or just want to restore the OS... which you said you have installed XP.
the copied recovery disc may not be booting for various reasons...
1.not set to boot fromcd drive in bios settings.
2. cd copy was not cd to cd copy or it was not made bootable. maybe you just copied the data of the friends recovery disc.
