Select some text in the document that contains a known mispelling. Under Tools > Language, look at the box for "do not check spelling or grammar." If
it is gray or checked, uncheck it. Run the spell check.

This is a text-specific setting, like bold or italics. It does not apply to
a computer, an instance of Word, or even an entire document. This is
different from the setting under Tools > Options > Spelling and Grammar,
which applies to all documents opened (but does not override the
text-specific settings).

If this is the problem, you can clear the problem up by selecting your
entire document (Ctrl-A) and unchecking the box.

Please, if the problem continues, use Office update, or re-install the product.
Good luck!

Keeps underlining in red when using ms word

One thing you probably will have noticed is the spelling mistakes in the letter. You should have typed the letter exactly as it was, and left any spelling errors in. More than likely, the spelling mistakes are underlined in red in your document. Anything with a wiggly green line under it is a grammatical error, (or what Microsoft Word insists is a grammatical error). You can turn these off and on if you like. To Turn the wiggly red and green lines on and off, do the following.

Auto Correct option is not working in all MS Office Versions

When you install Microsoft Office, AutoCorrect is set by default to try to match and correct a misspelled word with a word in the main dictionary that the spelling checker uses. However, if you want to make sure this option is enabled.

Do this is Microsoft Word:

  • Click the Microsoft Office Button
  • Click Proofing.
  • Click AutoCorrect Options
  • On the AutoCorrect tab, select the Automatically use suggestions from the spelling checker check box.

I use ms word 2003, is there any options which highlight all the spacing errors in the doc, for Eg. double spacing mistakes between two words..

I use Word 2003 and it automatically checks spelling AND spacing between words.

Under Tools>Options>Spelling&Grammer tab check the boxes that say "Check spelling as you type", "Always suggest corrections", "Check Grammar as you type", and "Check Grammer with spelling".
