First open up the task manager and try closing the program that you think is using your camera. If that doesn't work you can also try restarting your system. As a last resort, you can go into device manager, find you camera and uninstall the driver and then restart your computer. This would make your computer act as if the camera is brand new and everything should work normally.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I had the same message trying vista. Windows 7 offers running older programs in XP or even Win 98 SE mode. That fixed the problem for me. Further I recommend running it as administrator. Hope it helps.

Can this camera be compatible with windows 7?

Not compatible or not working well with windows 7?
(make your program/application run with windows 7)

Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:))

How do you use the camera and mic on the laptop

The camera and mic work great with the video calling program Skype. Install this program and it will guide you through the process of activating the MIC and camera settings. It is also used in Windows Messenger Live and many other video conferencing tools etc.

Picture project not detecting camera since installed windows 7, how do we download pictures now. camera is being detected by pc so it doesnt appear to be a hardware issue, nikon resource center say they...

You could try the folowings:

1) Run your picture project program under XP SP 2 'compatibilty mode'.

2) Run the picture project program in XP mode if your computer and version of Windows 7 allows it (eg. Professional or Ultimate versions but your computer processor will need to support 'hardware virtualization).

3) Run the program in a Virtual machine with XP installed: I would use Sun VirtualBox which is free and does not need hardware virtualisation (unlike windows 7 'native' XP mode or VPC2007).

As you can see, you do have some options to overcome Windows 7 shortcomings! Hope it helps.
