Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Flyback transformer? the abl circuit coming off the flyback is reading 5.5 volts. the manual states it should be -2.2v. i am starting to believe this is the reason i have green bleeding through the highlights of images. is something downstream the cause of the high voltage or is it the flyback? can you possibly give me some ideas for troubleshooting further? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

could you elaborate? Im not sure what over screen means & by oil do you mean the lens coolant? If I switch the crt video plugs the bleeding color changes to red or blue depending on plug, that is why I believe it to electronic and not coolant. I appreciate your time.

Howb to test for bad tv flayback transformer

If and this depends on brand and model number, the output transistor is shorted confirm the voltage from it to the transformer and if being held down or High voltage only comes up to 5 or 6 thousand volts the flyback is suspect.

Most shops of course have a ringer which will with part out of set test the primary winding (one that goes to and from the sweep transistor).

Some models are more prone to bad transformer than others so look at the history of this brand/model.

A bad one will usually take the sweep transistor out sometimes repeatedly--but other issues in for example the driver circuit in some models will cause the transistor to pull excessive current and get hot very fast---not usually the transformer.

My tv keeps switching off after about 20 minutes after initial starting. if tv is switched on immediately, then it works for less than 5 minutes before switching off. model: power vision.

I do not knowtis make , but this type of fault is sometimes due to dry joints in the flyback circuit or power supply try resoldering all pins on flyback transformer and chopper transformer, also cheek that the ht voltage is as the makers state. Waring unplug from mains before removing back and discharge ht resiour capacitor before starting repair

Cannot Find Flyback Transformer 60PP9202/17F

Contact Philips directly. They should be able to get you the part, even if they have to get it from another repair shops. Many repair shops purchase their parts from factory authorized distributors, not from the manufacturer. The flyback transformer powers the tube-it can be extremely dangerous to work on-EVEN with the tv off, they contain a lot of power somethjing like 50,000 to 150,00 volts. It is not fun getting shocked by one of these as many techs have been knocked unconcious by them. If you do not know the proper procedure to discharge a flyback then leave it alone!

Flyback

I read the other post you made and I don't belive that the flyback transformer has gone , and these models and makes from rca do have some common fixes that are found out by tech's . this problem that you are having can be in the power section , stanby circuit , protection circuit or even a horizontal output IC or some component that is causing the set not to come on . the flyback transformer would need to be tested to determine if it went bad but the power section would need to be tested first because there are different voltages that come out of the primary transformer and they go to different parts of the tv's functions and circuits , also info like what happen when it went out? and or was there a problem with it while watching it before it went out? , this can help to know what section was failing , thus start the testing in that section.
the best thing to do is to call an electronic repair shop to have a teck come out so they can determine the failure for you , as these are pretty complex sets and unsoldering and soldering , testing of and value idenentification of components is required , so if you cannot perform these then you could be putting alot of money into it and never finding the problem.
if you would like any more info , I'll bee glad to assist you

36" RCA- loud whine/squeal when it is plugged in, otherwise no power.

The HOT Hortz output transistor has gone home, 99% of the time from a faulty IVHT (Flyback Transformer), very common on the ctc187cl* chassis. The factory Flyback is no longer available, I have had problems finding an aftermarket one to replace it with.

The HOT is a BUH517, but you can also use a 2SD5129. It is the transistor mounted on the siler heat sink with a metal clip rather than a screw, just in front of the flyback.....

If you replace just the HOT, most of the time you will get a rapid arc (27,000volts - BE CAREFUL!!!) from the lower (yoke) post on the flyback. If the flyback is shorted, It may also just burn out the HOT and go right back to "squealing"....

Good luck finding the flyback!!!

0 volts on pin 9 of the flyback

Base on the service manual information, yes IC561 could be defective.
You did not get the +15 volts because the TV failed to power up and the majority of voltages are coming from the flyback transformer.

Flyback transformer?

Its either the flyback or a regulator. But i would need the model number of your set in order to know for sure. Please reply to this same post with your model number.

Tv will turn on

leadfoot,
i believe the problem is the flyback transformer. try cleaning by using a small aerosal can. this will either correct the problem or you might have to replace it.

flyback transformer stores energy so i would suggest hiring a professional technician.

PRoblem is in the start-up circuit for the high voltage power side of the power supply. The 5 volt, stand-by circuit, is obviously fine. Need to take voltage measurements on start-up to 32kv side of transformer to diagnose. Possible flyback transformer or voltage regulator.

On the CRT PCB, there is a ceramic capacitor attached to the screen voltage circuit. Disconnect it and the voltage may come up. If it does, replace it. check your 200 volt line and see where it is, also. If this doesn't help, let me know.
