Other than uninstalling CA, it has a minimum memory requirement of 512k however it runs like a dog on this am mount , it is recommended that you have at least 2gb of RAM to run CA antivirus.

Sluggish,non responsive

Could be a virus. If you don't have ant-virus software then go to Microsoft.com and download Microsoft Security Essentials and install it. Have it do a Full Scan of the machine.
Also, check that your computer is not running a disk defragment, disk cleanup or another system intensive application. Depending on the system, HP and Dell especially, the computer comes pre-installed with software that does these things for you on a schedule. Automatic Updates can also cause sluggishness while it is working, depending on what is being downloaded and installed.

My computer is running too slow.

The best way to speed up a slow running computer is to clean it for viruses. Also optimize your system, browser and registry using some reliable cleaner such as Reginout Cleaner.

> Turn on Windows Updates.

> Keep your device drivers updates.

My ACER 5100-4720 boots up with a black screen and after about 15 minutes it loads Windows Vista, but it is very sluggish, then it acts like it gets up to speed and still runs sluggish. I have 1GB DDR2,...

The first thing I would check is that the cpu fan is working. You should be able to see the fan come on from the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes the fans can stick from dust and dirt. Then the cpu will get very hot and cause the computer to slow way down. Try using a can of compressed air on the fan and see if it starts working. If the fan is working ok then you might have some type of virus or corrupted installation causing the computer to slow way down. You could try pressing F8 right before windows starts to load. This will bring up a boot menu. Then try booting the computer in safe mode with networking and see if it boots up fairly quickly. Once it boots up in safe mode run your virus scanning software to see if there are any viruses on your computer.

Slow typing response

Shutdown all non-necessary programs (Winamp, LimeWire) to reduce the "load" on your computer.

Disconnect your computer from the Internet (unplug the Ethernet cable or disable the wireless connection).

Then, launch MS Word.

Virus-scan your computer -- some computer-virus may be consuming resources.

Computer is very slow.

McAfee virus software is a memory hog. You need to add more memory to your pc. It uses pc3200 memory. This computer has a memory capacity of 4gigabytes. The memory slots are numbered this way......starting from the memory slot closest to the processor>
one, three, two, four. 1 and 2 work together, 3 and 4 work together. So if you buy just 2 gigabytes......put them in 1 and 2. This will help. Sounds like the virus software is doing a full system scan....you could do a "quick"scan and do a "full" scan once a week....
