My refrigerator is not getting cold

Is the freezer freezing? Do you hear a fan motor running inside the freezer? If the freezer fan is working and the freezer is still getting cold, do you see allot of frost on the back wall of the freezer?

Freezer not cooling at all - t-stat or compressor would be where to check next

No fan running in freezer and freezer is cold - bad evaporator fan motor.

If fan is running and you have heavy frost on the back wall of freezer - unit is not defrosting. could be defrost timer or defrost t-stat

Although the compressor seems to be working the freezer and refrigerator are not maintaining cold temperatures

Check to see if there is excess frost on the back wall of the freezer look behind the wall if you can . you might have a defrost problem. if you do look behind the freezer wall but don't see frost on the evaporator ( even but not restricting) you might have a sealed system problem.

My Whirlpool Freezer/Refrigerator model# ET19RMXGW02 is not keeping items cold. The ice maker is not working. There is frost in on the back wall of the freezer but objects like ice cream are all soft. ...

your evaporator coil behind this frost on the wall is iced up and you cant blow cold air through solid ice, remove this panel and defrost the coil, then check the defrost heating element below the coil, the defrost thermostat located on the coil or the defrost timer itself for being defective

The freezer is well and very cold, but the refrigerator is cool ,but not cold enough to keep the food well.

Check and see if there is frost on the back wall of the freezer. Also make sure the fan is running in the freezer. If the fan isn't running in the freezer replace it. If you have any frost or ice on the back wall of the freezer, remove the back wall inside the freezer. Check and see if the coils are completely frosted over. Thaw the coils out with a hair dryer, then measure the heater and make sure it measure there. (ohms)
If it's ok, then the defrost thermostat which is attached to the coils or the defrost timer is bad.

Normally it is the temperature of the refrigerator that shows the first sign of a problem because the refrigerator is cooled by air from the freezer. Check the back wall of the freezer for signs of frost. If there is frost on the back wall you have a defrost system problem.

Freezer not cold enough

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.

The refrigerator is not getting cold to it's recommended settings.

Check for a frozen coil in the freezer. Air from the freezer supplies the cold air to the refrigerator section for cooling. If frost is on the back wall of the freezer section you have a defrost system problem.
Frost on the back wall of the freezer indicates timer or heater circuit failure.

Frig not cold but freezer is ice maker not making much ice either

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
