You have to take it apart and check with a volt meter if the switch is getting voltage. If not trace it back and see if you are getting voltage through the power cord.

Can't switch cleaning mode from tool to floor

there's a mechanism inside the steamvac that should switch the mode automatically when you press the handle release and pull the handle down for the vacuum mode... it's automatic! it took so long to figure out because I kept looking for the switch when it was upright and didn't look as I was using it.

Vacuum will not shut off

Either the switch has a contact inside, or the wiring in the harness to motor are making contact.
This can be verified using a multimeter , preferably reading continuity (Ohms) on switch contacts, with power disconnected, that is safer than reading voltages.
This will tell if responsible is the switch or the wiring harness.

No power to vacuum motor. Switch need to replace.

See my response to "posted by bigbadben on Oct 07, 2007".

The cover that I referred to in my answer is a small plastic plate that covers the 'live' electrical bayonets between the electrical cord rewind spool and the motor. I did not make this clear in my first response. Before you start disconnecting any wires take a digital photo and/or draw yourself a electrical diagram. Save yourself a lot of time come reassembly.

Brushes don't turn anymore

This is an update from my last post. There are a bunch of people with this problem. The first thing is to check the little slide out lint trap on the bottom (red on my machine). If this is clogged the brushes won't spin--so I've heard. Check these websites www.mendmy.com/answers.php?id=24062 and for the part schematic for the machine If your machine is different you can specify a search to get a diagram of the correct one. www.vacshopusa.com/f7425.htm Good Luck!
