Open Question

I have a kwikset door set. The interior has a knob and the exterior is a thumb lever. The knob fell off and I am trying to put it back together. The lever does not engage. Their are teeth and it looks like there is nothing to connect into the teeth to activate the lever together with the middle door catch tongue...only the knob turns and works properly when reassembled. Am I missing a very small piece or something?

SOURCE: i am replacing my door

Most kwikset locksets will work on either 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 inch setback. There should be two holes on the latch where door knobs fit thru the door. If yours does not have this option I would suggest that you get one that will match your setback.Hope this helps.Thanks.

SOURCE: I purchased 2 kwikset entry

Remove the two screws holding the two halves of the lock on the door of the lock you want to change. Pull the keyed side out and turn it 180 degrees until the keyway is facing the direction you want and reinstall the lock and two screws.

SOURCE: re-assemble a kwikset front door lever and knob type latch

Since the exterior side of the lock only has a keypad and no lever, I'm not sure what you mean by the "outside lever". Here is a clear, easy to follow video of the installation. Please carefully review each aspect of your installation against it to see if you can spot an installation mistake:

You will probably need to replace the latch assembly. There is a small rivet that holds part of the latch together, and it also acts as a pivot point for a small piece that retracts the latch. If it gets bent, the latch won't retract fully, but you might be able to push it back and get the door open.

There is the 3rd version of the Kwikset exterior door set. The interior face plate is removed and on each side of the base plate has small slots with a lever on either side that need to be moved to the other end of the slot. The whole interior knob assembly with come off.

My exterior door lock (Kwikset) is stuck shut. The knob will not turn. I removed the knobs and tried to pull the mechanism back - but unable to. The door is therefore stuck shut.

Get a big scredriver and put it in the square in the middle of the mechanism and turn it till it opens, or you will just have to pry it out with the scredriver.
