Sounds like the switch is faulty. You have to get the model of the pump and get a switch at a electrical repair center.

Some of them TDs has a float which triggers a kill switch to stop the dryer if the water level exceeds the level and would overflow. Perhaps your float is stuck. I have not had the priv of working on one of these yet as they are not in my area. But I have been studying em.

Dishes are still dirty after all cycles

Hi

If the water inlet valve is fine and it fills with water then the issue seems to be with the float switch assembly that is bad and should be replaced. Float assembly is found inside the dishwasher's tub, on the bottom. The water that fills the dishwasher lifts the float, and when it reaches a certain level, it acts as a trigger for the float switch. The float triggers the float switch to shut off, thereby shutting off the flow of water into the dishwasher. A defective switch may interfere with dishwasher's filling and/or draining ability. Use voltmeter to test the switch. Set the device to the ohms setting x 1. Take each probe and touch them to one switch terminal each. This should produce a reading of either zero or infinity. Continue to touch the probes to the terminals, and press down on the switch's button. The reading should change to the opposite extreme. If the switch fails either of these tests, you should replace it. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

After commencing a programme my Hotpoint BF71 dishwasher takes in water but overfills, filling the whole of the tub nearly to door level. The waste pump starts for a short burst and then more water comes...

Check for a float switch that senses the water level. It may have two level sense of filled and overfill the latter would trigger the waste pump to avoid a flood. If the filled switch has failed, that could cause the problem. The waste pump MAY also be triggered on the basis of the filling taking too much time before the filled switch actuates... if it has failed, the time would be exceeded.
