I had the same problem and it was right when halo came out call 1-800-4-myxbox you will need your serial number and your gamer tag and everything but if your console is out of warranty then you will need to have someone put a new disc drive in your console you can buy one on ebay for under $50.00 including shipping but thats if you want to spend that much you could buy a used one on ebay or gamestop or something like that you can also put a dvd drive in but then you would need to mod your xbox and flash new bios to it hope this helps you will need a experienced computer repair or person to fix it for you
You have to replace your disc drive. Check out fixyourownxbox.com this will give you all the answers you need. When you buy your disc drive, it has to be the same as your current one and if you follow the procedure on this site you don't have to worry about flashing the drive. Hope this helps. I have the same problem and am in process of fixing it as well.

how old is it? that noise is coming from the cd drive it is probably on its way out or is full of dust and dirt, you can clean it yourself but you probably wont be able to fix as they are extremely difficult to work with and you cant just by a new drive as they have special code that link them to the xbox its in if you remove it and put a new one in you will only be able to play dvd as it will not recognise games because the code wont be there
That is an odd problem. It sounds like you maay need to change the laser or the dvd rom assembly if its reading only one game, yet all the games it wont read are working ok in another console. If i was you id simply replace the DVD rom drive, making sure its the same version as the original from the unit. I hope this helps. Good luck.
First get some disc cleaner, and clean any scratches. If that doesn't work, the only way fix your disc would be to mod your 360, and to use a program called xbox backup creator, to make a backup of your original copy. If you go this route, get a Samsung SH-D162C, or SH-D162A if you have SATA. This is the only dvd-rom that can be altered to read 360 discs, and you might need it if your 360 drive can't read all of the Halo disc. Note: for the obvious reasons you run a high risk of getting booted from xbox live, I got booted and never once played any of my backups online.
what has most likely happened is that the magnet which holds disks in place has dis-lodged and is now stuck to the roof of the dvd drive. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this would be to open up the xbox 360 and open up the dvd drive to fix.
So if you're not confident at this or in doubt in any way I'd contact Microsoft first if it's still under warranty, if not then it's a case of opening up the drive yourself I'm afraid.
Note. Does the drive attempt to spin up when you put a disk in?
Or does it just make small noises then nothing except "open tray" on screen?
