im not concerned with what other sites say im an appliance electrician i know whats what and ive never heard it called that, a basket is obviously a different terminology, anyway how is this drum/basket broken? bit more detail please

pull off the agitator and check the spanner nut to see if it's loose or something might have snapped in there, all it says is the basket is broken, that's all that holds it in place, look up his model number on the sears site and check out the agitator and tub and it shows you all the parts, the tub seals are under the basket and like i said all that really holds the basket in place is the spanner nut.good luck with your machine.this is all i was trying to tell you,i wasn't trying to be a punk or anything,i saw you were trying to help the guy out and all i meant was look up any site and you'll see the basket.have a good one

Washing machine unit basket is wobbling. Can I fix it myself?

Top load or front if front load and you can push up on basket with significant play then either a bad tub bearing or broken weld on basket shaft support if this indeed is the problem consider replacement parts are expensive and labor intensive

Washer tries and fails repeatedly to enter final spin

Depending on the model number, if a shock has broken the tub might have a broken inner spin basket support broken also. That can throw the spin basket off balance not allowing it to get up to high speed spin.

  • The basket spider provides support and stabilization for the washing machine's basket. It is located at the back of the basket and has three arms, which are attached to the basket by three bolts. Although the machine's basket is made of stainless steel, the spider is not. It is composed of an inexpensive, white, aluminum metal, also known as "pot metal," which is subject to corrosion. Eventually, the aluminum or pot metal deteriorates to the point where the spider breaks during a wash cycle - accompanied by very loud noises. According to one repairman, the sound mimics that of a car collision. The amount of corrosion behind the basket can be enough to fill a pint container.

Life Expectancy

  • The spider basket in a front-load washing machine does not have a long life expectancy. According to the appliance repair website Suds and Service, pot metal basket spiders in small front loaders, those with a capacity of 16 lbs. to 17 lbs., have a life span of only five to six years. These short-lived basket spiders are found on several washing machine brands, including Kenmore, Frigidaire, Electrolux and White-Westinghouse, as well as Gibson, Tappan, Wascomat and some GE washers.

  • Replacing a front-loading washing machine's broken basket spider is expensive. Although the spider is removable from the basket, washing machine manufacturers do not sell the spider as a standalone part, so you must purchase an entire basket. At the time of publication, the price of a basket and spider ranges from $259 to $470 depending on the manufacturer. When combined with labor costs, replacing the basket and spider can cost more than $600.

The basket is tipped forward

Most top loaders have 4 springs supporting the drum. In your case 1 spring has broken or come away from it's mount.

Kenmore HE3 Front Loader Washing Machine tumbler

The metal basket (inner basket) has a broken spider (these are the support brackets that hold the basket to the bearing shaft). The inner basket will need to be replaced and the front and rear shell of the drum may also need to be replaced depending if any other damage has been done. It's a big job, about 2 hours for a good tech.

Washing Machine Suspension Problem?

smirkin, the question here is if the basket is listing against the tub or the whole tub and basket is listing. If the basket is listing and banging around it could be the drive block has worn or broken. I will attach a photo of one. If the whole tub is listing it could be a spring that broke. You can remove the front panel of the washer by pressing in on the two clips on each side of the washer top, The front panel should drop and pull out. You can see if any of the suspension sprins broke. The drive block is located under the basket. The agitator and basket have to be removed to change it out. Take a look at the back
