SOURCE: what year is my singer

The Singer vintage machine site indicates that the AH251729 was made in 1947 in Elizabeth, NJ. For details see http://www.singermachines.co.uk/faq/tell-sewing-machine-age-from-two-letter-serial-number/ .

Look on the front of your sewing machine and locate the model number of the machine. Go to http://www.singerco.com/support/replacement-parts-chart and locate your model number. (Use the drop down menu and locate the group. Press Go and then find the pdf with the correct model parts list.) You can look up the exact part number and order them from the Singer Service Center online.

Alternatively, you may be able to find them at any Singer Authorized retailer. Just look at your machine and determine the type of shank that connects foot to the machine. (High Shank and Slant are common Singer foot designs on older machines.) Get a zigzag foot for Singer machines with that design. (If they don't have that, you can probably get a current foot and an adapter. We got an overedge foot and the high slant foot adapter for my Singer sewing machine (purchased in 1969) in the 1980s.)

I hope this helps.

I have a Tacsew T20U73-1 straight stitch/ zig-zag machine and I am wondering how I go about making my machine go from zig-zag to straight stitch?

There has got to be a selector of some kind on the machine. Usually it will be marked with symbols indicating straight or zig-zag stitch. You may also try varying the width of the stitch. The wider the stitch, the more pronounced the zig-zag effect.

if you go to www.singerco.com hover on customer support, and then click on instruction manuals, it tells you exactly how to identify your machine, and you can also download the instruction manual for the machine in pdf format free of charge at the same time. hope this helps.

Kenmore 1400 Zig Zag Sew Machine. The power cord broke and when I opened the machine-end plug, the wires popped out before I could see where each wire (power and foot/knee control) went. Now I do not know...

First what colors are the wires? Usually the 3 positions should be earth, neutral and live. These 3 positions are supposed to be the main power supply into the unit. The 4th cable you are refering to what does it connect?
First thing i would like you to do is identify which of the cables represent the 3 positions as stated above. After that then we can try to determine what the last cable is meant to do. Let me know the color and sizes of the cables. Usually the sizes are written on the cable in mm.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Hope this support has been helpful?

Setting of the stictches meaning how do i set it to normal straight stitch.

You do not indicate what machine it is. Look for a lever or knob that moves the needle from left to right. With this lever/knob, position the needle in the position where it no longer zig zags. There may be two adjustments, one selects the size of the zig zag and the other selects between straight and zig zag. Check you selection of the lever by turning the hand wheel until you have the setting you want.

I bought it from a yard sale, with no instruction book, and i cant get it to sew a strait stich, it sews zig zag only even if i change knob control, I cleaned it oil it, help?

Hello:

You don't say what model this sewing machine is, or how old. Some older machines had cams that created different stitches. (they sort of look like weird little cogs)

Did it sew ok before you clean/oiled it?

Yes, from the information I have on your machine the metal disk you refer to is basically a program disk. It operates like the old self playing pianos did with the holes. You stated that the model number is 830. Is that the model number that is written on the machine?

How old is the singer sewing machine with the serial number g1027369

You have a Singer Model 27, built at their Elizabethport factory in Elizabeth, NJ, in a production run of 40000 which were manufactured in 1911. Confirmation from Singer available by clicking here.

Your machine is very nearly 100 years old, but in good condition will still be fully usable and you can still buy many spare parts for it.

I trust that I have fully answered your question; please take a moment to rate my reply.
