This solution is not acceptable I am unable to crawl under my desk and disconnect the printer nor do I think that is the only solution. Aside from that I need to print TODAY.

what the heck is a printer drive and how do I find it so I can resolve this problem?

  • callmesweets Aug 02, 2008

    guru,
why do you all give highly technical advice to non tech people. I do not know what you are talking about with your comment about the usb drive and I won't disconnect anything for fear of messing up. this is a new printer.

Double check the USB cable connection from printer to PC if it's properly plugged in, unplug and replug it. Try to power off your printer for 20 seconds and restart your computer. When the computers boots up, turn on printer. Check if you can print again.

Read the printer’s lights. Doing this can provide you with very useful clues. Is the power light on? Is the paper feed light blinking? Don’t be afraid to press buttons on the printer: Turn it off and on, reset the paper feed, and take the printer offline and bring it online again.
Reboot. many printing problems simply disappear after you restart your computer. Also, reboot your printer. Sometimes, for no good reason, a printer will become wedged (it just stops communicating with the computer). Turning your printer off for a few seconds, and then back on, will usually get you going again.

Check taht there is no paper stuck inside the printer, try disconnecting printer for 2 minutes from power. Try also a different usb cable.

Does it show any error number or any code?

i would suggest you to do a hard reset of the printer by plugging off the unit from wall power for one night for a hard reset sir

if it is a known error with proper error code then it is very easy to sort it out sir.

and hence for a unknown error i would suggest you to leave the unit off for at least 2 hours and then turn it ON.

error can be of any type ranging from a simple software re installation from a part replacement. and hence i would suggest you to start with a hard reset as the first try for solving the problem.

HP LaserJet 3050 All-In-One Printer blank pages after attempting to print second envelope from same document - turning off and back on solves temporarily

If the same fault occurs with different printers it is almost certainly caused by the document.
"...second envelope from same document" suggests you are using a mail-merger. Is that right?
What happens if you start again from scratch? Mke a new document and try to print it a a single entity, without using mail merge?

I got 3 months ago message on hp officejet j4580 display: Print cartridge problem: [Tri-Colour]. Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot. Today while printing a document, i noticed printing with...

You must be using HP60.
Have you refill your cartridge at all?

If you did, gentely wipe out the cartridge circuit part with Q-tip (with bit of alcohol).
And wipe out the circuit part in the printer where cartridge goes in as well.

And try back.
Sometimes by having some dust or bit of ink make cartridge unreadable.

If you used brand new, do same thing to cartridge circuit part.
Otherwise, there got to be some circuit shot happen in printer.

For your reference, HP4580 is pretty new model and has not cause major problem.
Good practical and durability is good.

If you would like to save money, try refill kit by "ROADINK".

Not only they are easy, but also the printing quality is good.
For your better understanding pls check out my youtube video.
And will see how easy ink refill can be done.

Not so much a problem but got message printed out while trying to print a document. Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN. Does this mean something I should be concerned with ??

An error page will print with the words "Unsupported Personality: PCL " in the upper left hand corner. The printers are host-based and do not support PCL printing; therefore, installing an alternate PCL5e or PCL6 printer driver will frequently generate this error condition. NOTE: This error condition occurs by design when an attempt to print with a PCL5e or PCL6 printer driver occurs and is NOT a bug within the product software. SOLUTION: Install the correct HP LaserJet Host-Based Printer Driver or the HP LaserJet printing system software for the product. These drivers are available for download from the HP web site. Click here to go to the HP web site drivers and downloads page. NOTE: There are several programs (such as accounting, invoicing, court documentation applications) that are 16 bit (DOS) programs with a 32 bit (Windows) overlay. Due to the nature of these applications and the associated Windows overlay, the errors may continue with the correct printer drivers. These applications do not typically support a host-based output device, and as such would not be supported in these environments.

Problem of incompatible cartridge occure in my new J 4580

i had the same problem with the hp 4580. i needed to replace the black ink which i did. then the error message appeared "incompatible print cartridge tri color"...chatted with hp customer support, wasted a hour. claimed its a hardware problem need to have it fixed. i asked would i be charge he said yes but the printer was under warranty. he asked other questions...bottom line i left the chat box....bought another hp 4580, used same cartridges, same message...THEN finally i replaced the color cartridge...and BAM! it worked on both printers. solution...replace the color cartridge...cons..if this happens again its a waste of money to keep buying the colored ink...
