Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

2 Answers

I have a compaq presario v2000. At first the bottom near the battery would get hot and the laptop would just shut off. I purchased a cooling pad and that fixed the problem for a short time. Now, I can turn it on, log on, but when I click on a icon it wont do anything and just shuts itself off after about 10 seconds. Please help!!!

This could be a couple of things...

overheating due to the heatsink and fan that takes the heat awasy from the cpu and gpu might be blocked up with fluff and dust.

could be software related, try booting up into your recovery partition (while computer starts up keep pressing F11) and repairing windows.

But it sounds like your laptop just needs a good service...your local engineer should be able to do this for around £30-£40 and is worth it when it comes to HPs.

Hope this helps

Sounds like overheating alright,
first step is to get a hose type vacuum cleaner and give the back where the fan vent is a good blast, these fans **** in air and likewise all the bits of dust and fluff floating around, laptops are particularly vulnerable because people take them into bedrooms etc.
if that fails, then compaqs tend to have about 6 screws on the bottom with pictures of a tiny keyboard, unscrew them, and the keyboard should lift. (carefuly prise...once lifted more than 1cm high be VERY careful as a thin delicate ribbon cable is all that keeps your keybaord working lift slowly and tilt backwards taking care not to snap it..else that will cost money to replace.
you should be able to see the fan and vents from there, clean them out with the vacuum and qtips.

Battery problem with HP Compaq Presario V2000 laptop

When batteries fail, they usually lose the cells inside them, which means that the cell is no longer able to function as a holding cell for power and therefore cannot do its job anymore, when a battery fails to hold and refuses charging it is bad and needs to be recycled. The flashing is telling you to purchase a new battery. The larger the number of cells in the battery, the longer and better it will perfrom,,RE: 6 cell, 9 cell, 12 cell.

Laptop Compaq Presario F 700 overheats easily and shuts down

When the CPU overheats it shuts down (ie thermal overload) and won't startup until it has cooled down. This problem is caused by faulty fans (with bearing problems and may not spinning at normal speed) or the fan and heatsink assembly is clogged with dust.
Check the vents and fan and vacuum and remove the dust.

If the laptop is not placed on a flat surface there may not be enought air entering the vent on the bottom of the laptop.
To improve ventillation, you can stick rubber pads on the bottom of the laptop to increase the height of the laptop off the table. Better still purchase a laptop fan assisted base and place the laptop on this base, this provides further fan assisted ventillation.

Compaq presario v2000 overheating issues...

Yes, this is a fairly common problem with the v200o, caused by a lack of good fan airflow. Your best bet in using it would be to get a laptop pad. This will not only keep your laptop cooler, it will prevent your legs from blocking the fans when it is on your lap.

Good luck!
