Unplug and replace. Pumps get old and slow, and when they slow up they get hot, which damages pump more, so they get hotter until they stop working. Copy following link for tips to make next pump last longer such as air valve, periodic cleaning with white vinegar. http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html Gene h
1) Bad check valve ... take apart and clean with white vinegar 2) Bad single handle faucet cartridge ... test for cross connection 3) Set timer operation instead of thermostat operation ... thermostat operation may be bad depending on location of thermostat
Sounds like 2 problems: 1) Crossover and 2) Setting timer Recirculation system has check valve that stops backflow of water when pump is turned off. When check valve is clogged with sediment, or has worn out, then cold water enters hot pipe or hot water enters cold pipe when faucet is turned on. Take apart connection where grundfos connects to both hot and cold pipes, and clean with white vinegar or CLR. http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html
If your grundfos pump is like mine, it is a sealed 1-piece unit that cannot be taken apart and repaired. I wanted to change the timer like you but i couldn't.
The autocirc circulation pump has a built-in timer. I looked at that model, and it doesn't come apart either.
You were able to rotate it before and you cannot rotate it now?? Is this the situation?? Then, the programmer is stucked up. Sorry, but you may need to replace it.
