Question about Kenmore 54501 Dehumidifier

1 Answer

My humidifier stopped working after possible exposure to saline water.

I tried to reset it but to no avail. I do not know why it won't start back up. I tried to open it up by taking out the screws but it still would not open. I called Sears but it is not under warrenty and unless I pay for a diagnostic they will not replace it. I am a bit handy and would like tot try to fix it myself.

Plug something else into the same outlet. If it works, you
know you have power to the Dehumidifier. If it doesn't work,
you’ll need to check for any blown fuses or tripped circuit
breakers. If you have power, it could be one of several problems that
    are keeping it from running.

Another reason that the dehumidifier won't turn on may be that
the humidity level you set your unit for has been reached. If you need
or desire a lower level of humidity, adjust the humidistat to reflect
    this.

Many dehumidifiers have a safety device which senses when the
reservoir is full. The tank either presses against a switch, or there
may be a sensor connected to the tank that triggers a switch when the
tank is full. This is to prevent any water damage to your property.
Always remember water and electricity do not mix well. Empty the tank.
This should solve the problem if the tank was full. If you empty it,
and the unit still doesn't run, look around the tank to see if there's
a switch or other device that controls the dehumidifier. Look for a
bucket switch. You may be able to throw a switch by hand.

My humidifier stars and stops, start and stops. It runs for a minute then shuts off.

It sounds as if you may have the humidity extraction level set to high. Try lowering it you 35% and check the water collection bucket, to make sure it is installed properly

Hope this helped you.

I have a Whirlpool AD75UST humidifier that stopped running, almost like it blew a fuse or something. Does it have a fuse somewhere? Any other possibilities? Thank you!

Have you checked the receptacle it's plugged into, to see if it's still working? Use an electric lamp to check this. If the lamp doesn't work, the circuit breaker in the home's main panel has been tripped. Unplug the dehumidifier and reset the circuit breaker. Then plug the dehumidifier back in. If it trips the circuit breaker again, there's an electrical problem within the dehumidifier.

In answer to your direct question ... some dehumidifiers have a reset switch. It's probably on the back of the unit, above the water collection tub. if all else fails consult your Owners Manual's Trouble Shooting Guide. If you have misplaced it, you can download it from the Whirlpool Appliance starting at their home page.

Hope this helped head you in the right direction to solving your problem.

When my dehumidifier is on, it says there is 90 humidity. I come back an hour later, it is still running and no water in the bucket.

Hello,

If there's no water in the reservoir, first make sure that water is getting to the humidifier. The humidifier must have a good stream of water available to it. If there's water in the water line but the reservoir doesn't fill, replace the float mechanism inside the humidifier.

Take care.

Start up instruction for dehumidifier

A dehumidifier does not need water in the tank.It takes humidity out of the air and the moisture goes into the bucket. A humidifier has to have water in the tank.Note ,a humidifier puts moisture in the air, and a dehumidifier takes the moisture takes moisture out of the air.

White powder coming from dehumidifer.

Commercially available cool mist humidifiers sonicate water in order to create a fine mist. In other words, intense vibration liberates millions of tiny droplets of water from the reservoir. This water contains all of the salts of the original tap water. Consequently, over time, you will begin noticing that a fine white powder covers EVERYTHING in the room. This is the same stuff that is trapped in the reservoir of a warm mist humidifier.
its harmful but very annoying !

De Longhi DE220 De-Humidifier not collecting water

Hi there - you have to vacuum the filter several times. You can pull it out of the back left hand side of the unit. Vacuum it several times, and then start the unit on the lower fan setting, at a humidity level of around 60%. It will kick in after a bit, and then you can start adjusting the humidity level to where you would normally use it.

Sometimes - after you have vacuumed the filter, it still doesn't work. I used my fingers to pick lint off the filter, and ran a BIC safety razor over it as well, to try and get more out of the filter. You can also wash the filter in warm water, and leave it to dry over night. Don't put it back in until it's completely dry.

This will work! Cheers... E

Humidifier Runs but no water collected

Are you talking about a dehumidifier or a humidifier. If you are talking about a dehumidifier, it works by blowing air across a cooling coil causing condensation and the water will drip and pool. The cooling is caused by a compressor working like refrigerator, but using the effect to dehumidify. To check if the cooling coil is working there will be a metal can like in it with tubes in and out. One of the tubes should be warm(input) and the other tube should be cold, if not your compressor is not working. If freezing up, low freon. Check to see if the compressor shuts off very quickly, that would be too much freon. This is not user servicable. Now a humidifier works several different ways. One way is a fan with cloth belts rolling through water using evaporation to humidify. Another way is for a circular fan like on a motor to turn. It has a hollow piece into the water. It picks up water and then through centrifugal force aerates. One way is for a sonic humidifier. All the types have a problem with eventual calcification or mineral build up in the water handling paths. Lime-away or Concentrated Lemon Juice will dissolve this. The lemon juice is the most fun. It will turn your toilet bowl white and also remove rust stains from laundry...
