Thanks for the reply. It was interesting to see the remote blinking lights. However, for some of those technology misteries, after a few months without working it worked in that particular day - as from your reply, and stopped working again, now with no lights blinking in the remote.

What you can do is check and see if the remote is actually sending signals to your receiver. If you have a digital camera or camcorder, this is an easy test to do. Make sure that you have working batteries in the remote. Aim the remote at the camera, and look through the viewfinder of the camera. You should be able to see the remote flash as it is sending the codes. If you do see the flash then you know that your remote is sending, and the problem would be with the receivers remote receiver, or the decoding circuit of the receiver. If you don't see the flashes then you know the remote is not functioning. At this point you will have to check with your local Yamaha repair shop to see if you can still get a replacement, and how much that would cost you.

Another option is to look at some of the Universal remotes that are made by companies such as Logitech. You can program the newer remotes by downloading codes from the manufacturers website. This may allow you to stop having to use multiple remotes for all of your equipment.

If the lights in the remote are no longer blinking, and you know that your batteries are working, then your remote has stopped working. At this point you can either replace your remote with the same model by ordering through your local Yamaha repair shop, or you can purchase one of the newer Universal Remotes that are available today. They are capable of controlling thousands of different pieces of equipment, and they can fully control those units. You can research the remotes online to make sure that they can control the type of equipment that you want to control.

For example you can go to the Logitech site and then to their Harmony Remote page. There will be a listing of the remotes available, and their approximate cost. You can then choose the remotes support page. Once there you will see a set of drop down boxes. With these you can choose your specific equipment to see if the remote will control it properly. At that point you can then decide if you want to purchase that type of remote, or simply order a direct replacement for your remote.

How to troubleshoot remote controll

Most Yamaha receivers have a remote ID so if you have more than one Yamaha you can control one without bothering the other, do you still have your owners manual? If not have you tried the people at Yamaha they are very helpful with a problem like this but for an example I have my Remote ID set at ID1 because I do have 2 Yamaha receivers the RX-V1300 and the RX-A3020, see if you can find the section in your manual that talks about remote IDs and let me know if that fixes the problem and you can always goto but that is the site for the United States they do have sites for many countries at

All of a sudden my yamaha remote only works when about 1-2ft from the receiver. I tried changing the batteries but that didn't help. Even my universal and cable box remotes will only work from that...

Well it proves that the remote is not the issue, the problem is in the receiving module in the receiver and will need replacing, this will require a professional to resolve the situation.

Comcast remote

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

Remote or Reciever?

It could be the receiver LED. But I would try cleaning the remote pads first and infrared LED.

I am wondering if it a preprogrammed remote controller or not. If not, you have to reprogram it.
