Question about Stoves Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Our Wedgewood stove suddenly started acting up. We have to use the Reset button often to get any oven lighting at all. The pilots are fine. The broiler (separate compartment) is fine. But the oven lights up only to a low level, not a higher flame the higher you set the temperature. Your ideas?

It sounds like the problem is either the safety valve (the reset button) or the oven thermostat (the assembly behind the oven temperature knob). Both parts can be rebuilt (if they are original parts) and replacement parts are still made for 1940's and 50's Wedgewoods.

Old wedgewood oven in home...very low pilot light in oven...how do I adjust it?

The oven pilot is usually located at the back of the oven; turn a screw on the pilot ignition unit to adjust the pilot flame height.

here is a link, pretty much all older ranges operate the same.

Pilot light on 1954 wedgewood gas stove burns too hight how to adjust

There are small screws on the manifold that control the pilot fame. They could be accessed by removing the top panels or sometimes they can be accessed from the front , Some of the front panels snap off. remove the burner tops and trace the tubes back to the valve manifold and you should see a screw on a small valve. Turn these and the pilot lihght should go up or down.

Pilot light

When you smell gas...is it all the time? If so, this is dangerous. If it only happens when you're trying to start the oven, no problem. Push the red button and hold it while lighting the pilot. Hold for 30 REAL seconds more. Release. The pilot should stay lit. If not, get a service tech.

Gaffers and Sattler vintage stove oven pilot 1956 W54 series similar problem

My mother had the same problem with her Gaffers-Sattler range. No one could figure out what was wrong with it. Her local new appliance repair people said to contact J.E.S. Enterprises, Inc at www.theoldapplianceclub.net. Whew; thank God for that tip. They knew exactly what the problem was and repaired the unit for her. The stove is running again like a workhorse! Here is their number - 805-643-3532.

Oven pilot light won't light

Part of the problem was my own ignorance about this particular Kenmore gas oven. It doesn't even have a pilot light. Instead, there is an electric heating element close to the burner which gets so hot that it ignites the gas. It seems that the heating element also doubles as a temperature sensor, so that it opens the gas valve only when the heating element is hot enough to ignite the gas. This heating element, called the "ignitor", no longer gets hot in my oven even though there is 120VAC applied to it when the oven knob is turned on. Therefore, the ignitor is defective. I ordered a new one on-line from "Appliance Parts of America" for $31.50 plus shipping, and this should fix the problem. If it does NOT, I'll add to this post.

Lighting a pilot light in a 30 year old roper gas range

Lift the top lid and look for a cylinder or something similar with tubing going into it there should be a button of some sort on the side. if you are lucky the button will have a red cap on it. press the button in and light the pilot inside the oven. hold the button for a minute or so until the pilot stays on. kind of like lighting a water heater.
