The installation disks will start reading themselves when inserted into e: drive. The other disks will not start and error message insert disc in e: comes on. Insert disk again and still nothing.

The disks will play on the dvd attached to my TV.

The installation disks will start up by themselves when placed in the e" drive.
    The other disks do nothing.
The other disks will play on the dvd player on my TV.
When the other disks are placed in the e: drive the light for the drive comes on and I just get a message to insert disk in e:
If I dostart- run on the e: drive same thing happens . Get insert disc message.

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. I need to clarify the situation that the Optical Drive only read the installation disk. If you have another computer with cd/dvd rom can you verify if the other cd will be detected because it can be that the cd is a bad cd. Can you also try to use different working CD if possible like Data CD, Music CD or DVD if the Drive will be able to read it.

Please provide the information needed so that we will be able to determine what is causing the problem.

Thanks for using Fixya.

As you describe the problem it seems that the CDs are working properly and the problem is not normal on a Optical Drive that it chooses the disk that it want to read. Basicall the problem that your experience is because the laser of the CDrom is starting to go bad. The CDrom is detected by the computer and there is power. This is a hardware problem specifically the laser of the CDROM is having a hard time to read the disk. I once experience the problem and the solution here is to change the CDROM. May i ask if you still have warranty for the computer?

Yes it will happen once in a while because of a bad laser. It will sometimes read the CD sometimes not. If no warranty on the unit you can basically change the CDROM to a new one it will alway be your option because software can't fix this problem and we don't need to change settings on the computer.

Acer 5000 no keyboard and mouse uploading xp home

You might have a faulty keyboard or a key may be continuously pressed without you seeing it physically. When you get to that screen again, try running your hand across all the keys a few times and see what happens. If not, just go on ebay and find a cheap one and replace it.

Will acer extensa 5230E reinstallation cds contain windows

A driver restore disk works with a windows disk to return your Acer Extensa 5230E Windows 7 back to the original factory setup.

Once windows has installed you put this disk into the drive as soon as windows gives you a found new hardware dialog box. Once inserted the Acer Extensa 5230E Windows 7 will automatically find all the drivers and also install most of the original factory software. BEWARE OF GENERIC DISKS ! All Drivers and factory software are operating system specific so you must have the correct software and drivers for your Acer Extensa 5230EWindows 7. Some of the drivers you would find on this Acer Extensa 5230E Windows 7 Restore Disk are listed below. Not all will be applicable to your system as this list is for information only for Acer Extensa 5230E Windows 7 Restore Disk.

THIS DISK DOES NOT CONTAIN AN OPERATING SYSTEM!
YOU WILL NEED TO INSTAL Windows 7 FIRST OR USE AN EXISTING INSTALL.

Hope this helps

Acer 5000 will not start up properly

A Windows system file is corrupt.
The best thing to do is reinstalling the system.
This can be done either using original recovery CD, or using Windows setup disk.

To preserve your data you will need to chose partial recovery or upgrade setup.

Windows XP CDs has also a tool called Recovery Console that can be used to repair this kind of problem.

Here the procedure to fix the problem using Windows Recovery Console:
  • Insert Windows Setup CD, then start the computer.
  • When Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R.
  • When asked, chose the Windows installation you wish to repair (eg 1) , then press Enter.
  • When prompted, enter the administrator password .
  • When command prompt (DOS screen) starts, enter the following commands./ (if C: is not your Windows system drive, then change the drive letter)
    ATTRIB -H -R -S C:\BOOT.INI
    DEL C:\BOOT.INI
    BOOTCFG /REBUILD FIXBOOT
  • Remove the Windows CD from drive and restart computer.

Dvd door will not open

There should be a small hole on the face of the drive that will allow you to use a straitened paper clip or a pin to open the drive manually. If there is a disk in the drive it may have come off the spindle jamming the tray. After you get the tray open see if the drive will read a disk and operate properly with the button or software command to open. If nether will open the drive the problem is most likely hardware if the button will open the drive but you cannot open it with a command then the driver is most likely the cause and should be available from Acer.

Cannot reload original software

I am sure that you can order replacement recovery disks from Acer. If that fails, you can load any retail version of Windows XP, and go to this site to download and install all of the appropriate drivers.
