Pulse dialing is a holdover from Rotary phones, which when the rotor is turned and let go, counts out the number you entered in clicks on the telephone line. Pulse, or DTMF (Dual-tone multi-frequency), uses two overlaid tones (one for row and one for column) to signify a button press.

Why does the phone not call out ? It says the way the number is dialed doesn't work?

Did you read the instructions that came with it? I am wondering if you have to dial 9 to get an outside line if this is a home PBX unit?

The other possibility is that the phone is not set to tone dialling and is set to pulse. When you dial, do you her musical tones or clicks corresponding to the number dialled?

How to change tone and pulse dialling mode in Gaoxinqi Telephone set

Not knowing what model you have, I can't even find a manual for this. Be aware that new phones can't be set to pulse dialling, because the providers are all digital now.

The tone on my 2 portable DECT 6.0 phones was somehow changed- now every time I dial, I get the old rotary sound and I can not access any menu options. Help, I use my phone for work and need it fixed! ...

Your phone is somehow set to pulse dialling and you need to change it to tone. Instructions are given below.

Of course if you can't select menu options this will not work so please explain why the menu options are not available - what happens when you select the menu softkey?

Dial mode
The dial mode is preset to tone. If you do not have touch tone service, you need to change the setting to pulse.
To change the setting:
Press the MENU softkey when the handset is not in use.
Press or to select SETTINGS, then press the SELECT softkey.
Press or to select Dial mode, then press the SELECT softkey.
Press or to choose Tone or Pulse. Press the SET softkey to save, or press the BACK softkey to exit to the previous menu.

Pulse-dialing with Arris modem?

If you have the current firmware for your modem, it should work with pulse. Arris had to make it's MTA's pulse compatible due to old alarm systems that still utilize pulse dialing.
