It has a window on the side of the crankcase and a drain plug on the bottom of the engine. It takes about 4 quarts w/filter, add three then check the level in the site glass, when it is about 2/3 of the way up the glass you are full. It uses 10W40W

Oil leak from exhaust

Hi Kevin, many riders are over filling their oil system because they do not know how to properly read their oil site glass. The following procedure works on nearly all 4 stroke engines but to be on the safe side you should always refer to your owners manual. Use your center stand if you have one.
1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature or let idle for 5 minutes.
2. Turn off your engine and let it sit for 2 minutes, this will allow the oil from the top end to drain to the bottom.
3. Hold your bike straight up or on the center stand and wait 2 minutes for the oil in the bottom of the engine to be level in the sight glass.
4. Your oil level should be between the top full mark and the bottom add mark.
5. Never over fill your oil system it will cause problems:
a. oil leaking out of exhaust pipes.
b. oil leaking out of breather pipe/hose.
c. oil carryover into the air cleaner.
6. Your oil site glass must never be completely full drain as necessary.
7. Your oil site glass must never be completely empty add as necessary.

Can you tell me the tyre pressure on a fjr 1300 2005 also the amount of oil in the beveldrive and the amount of oil in the engine ,thanks

Tire pressure is 36 psi @ front & rear but if the total load is over 198 pounds shuold be 42 psi on rear, always measured when tire is cold. Final gear oil capacity is .21 US qt or .18 Imp qt, engine is 4.23 US qt or 3.52 Imp qt when replacing the oil filter. information is from the owner's manual.

I have a ??? about my 1990 yamaha fzr 1000

Buy four quarts, but plan on using just three. If you actually do change the filter, you will drain more oil. Not all the oil drains out if you leave the filter alone.

Once you drain the oil, your filter is replaced and your drain plug is tight, add two quarts, and check it as you add the third qt. a little at a time. If your bike has a sight glass, make sure you stand the bike up straight and centered, and wait a minute before you take the reading so the oil can get to the glass. (Some glasses require two people to read!)

If your engine just has a dipstick, check it as you add the third qt. Once you think you're in the operating range, put the cap on and run the engine for a minute. Kill it and check oil level once more to see if it dropped.

Have fun, and enjoy your new scooter! Let me know if we can help with other maintenance on the FZR. Later,
TaterTodd
