Put all your settings back to the way they were and check the time and date on your computer (also on the router), WPA uses encryption, if the time difference between the two is too great it can break the encryption (seen this often).

The router is a Microsoft, not the modem. I know of only one other person that owns a M$ router. A Netgear would have been my preference and a lot less trouble.

If you press the window key and R, you'll open up a RUN box that you type in CMD and press OK. It will open up another box (DOS) and you type IPCONFIG. The machine will respond with your IP address and gateway. If the gateway is something like 192.168.1.1 and your IP address is 192.168.1.x where x is anything but 1, it's a good start.

Open up Internet Explorer and type in the 192.168.1.1 or whatever into the address bar. It should open up the web browser for the Microsoft router. Now, did you get a set of instructions with a quick setup? Is this the MN-xxx box? You get to search the M$ website for the setup instructions if you don't have or never had them. Or, remember that $40 Netgear?

The username and password might be admin and admin or blank. That lets you set up wireless security. It should have some pretty self-explanatory help screens to give you either a WEP key or a WPA-PSK key. I'd start with WEP and a simple 10 character hex password like FACE123456. If the neighbors guess it, you can always go for better passwords or change the one you just set.

Hope this works, and think of me down the interstate from you (x187).

Belkin N Wireless Router doesn't connect to Modem

If router is brand new you should have a set up disk. the set up disk will walk you through it or you might log onto Belkin site to see a walk through set up. If you can access internet from modem to router to internet. That means router is functioning properly. To go completely wireless you will need to secure your network and setup your access codes. Definitely use the setup disk to do this. A unsecured wireless network is a nightmare waiting to happen. Good luck

Belkin Wireless Modem Router problem

well, first of all the i also have the N1 belkin wireless modem router, in order for it to connect, there has to be a wireless connection in your area for you to connect to, if any of your neighbors so have wireless you can connect to their network, but if you are not getting a conection that means no one around you has wireless or lan, the belkin wireless is not a internet provider it just extends the distance of your internal wireless. some networks may be secured as well, sometimes you can only connect to unsecured networks unless you have the name and passcode for the secured network.
