Sound icon shows a small red x and there is no sound although the video is fine. I have never had this problem before, but I don't use YouTube a lot.

Right click on your speaker icon then click on playback devices. A window should come up with your devices. Right click on the one you want to use and you should see "enable" or "disable". If you see enable click on that and exit. right click on speaker icon again and click open sound mixer to adjust your volume. If nothing shows up in window, right click on the empty window. A window should come up "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices". You should have already enabled so click on "show disconnected devices" If you device shows up then you need to check connection and or cable. If this doesn't help you let me know in "add comment"

If you have more than one sound device you want to "disable" the one you don't want to use. You can also look at it by getting into your "control panel" then go to "Device Manager", then click on box with next to sound, video and game controllers.

You also might habe an outdated driver. If you give me your operating system and what sound device you are using, I can help you with update.

No sound on youtube. Loudspeaker icon is red with an x by it.

Hi,
If there is no sound on the computer and you see an X on the sound icon, it might be muted or the sound drivers might be required to be reinstalled. Try hovering over the icon on the sound icon then click on it to unmute the sound.

Thank you for using Fixya. Your recommendation is highly appreciated.

I cannot get any sound for youtube videos. All other sond is OK.

When you play a video on youtube. If you do not hear any sound then look at the bottom left on the lower boundary of the Video you will see a speaker icon.
Make sure that this sign is not displayed with a cross and that the sound indicator shows enough volume so that can be heard.

Good Luck!

No sound from you tube videos, other sound on PC just fine...............

There are 2 likely problems:

1 - Next to the "play" button below the video, there is a speaker icon. Hold your mouse over it and a bar will appear. Make sure the slider isn't all the way over to the left.

2 - In the bottom right corner of your desktop, next to the clock, there's another speaker icon. While youtube is open, right click it, and select "open volume mixer." Check that the slider for internet explorer (or firefox etc. if you use it) is up the top - you may need to scroll across to find it if you have several programs open

No audio with videos

When playing videos in YouTube and has no sound maybe the cause of the following errors:
  1. The volume control of the video itself is in mute mode, to solve this problem refer to the YouTube video controls, particularly the volume button.
  2. The volume control of the headset or speaker is in the low mode, to solve that problem check the volume control of the speaker or the headset.
  3. The volume control in the computer task-bar sound icon is in mute mode, when the icon has "x" means the sound is not working, to solve that problem click the icon and remove the check in the small boxes at the bottom that causes the disappearance of sound.
  4. The computer has no installed audio devices although you have the audio hardwares, I am referring to compatible audio drivers in order to work the device, to solve it please check your devices in My Computer>>Manage>>Devices. When there are exclamatory sign to some devices that maybe the sounds, so better look for compatible drivers in order for it to work.
  5. The sound cord maybe plugged in a wrong socket, to solve it please observe the color coding or refer to the manual. And if doesn't work in front panel please do it in a back panel. To ensure that the front panel is working you should open the case and look for that little power cords that have to be connected to the motherboard.
  6. The hardware might have no power especially speakers because they require power to work so better check the power cord if it is connected.
  7. If the foregoing are not helpful please ask the technical support of your supplier.

All of a sudden the sound went out on youtube. the videos play just fine but with no sound

1. check your volume on the video screen in Youtube
2. check the volume control in the Windows setting ( task bar>> lower right hand part of the screen)
3. you may inadvertently muted the sound.
4. uncheck the box next to the volume if you see a check mark ( Window xp)
5. For Windows 7 click the speaker icon in the task bar and then click "mixer" you should now see a speaker Icon click on the icon then you should see a tab labeled "levels" you will see s microphone, aux etc. with an icon either muted or on.
6. If you hear no sound after that then try updating the drivers for you soundcard. This will require you to go into the "device manager".

Warning label on screen

It sounds like a 'mute' icon. Check for a corresponding button on your remote control.

Just to clarify - You say the TV sound is fine but you do not use the built-in speakers...

Can you actually get any sound out of the TV speakers? If you can't it is because the TV is on mute (For your type of setup you will need to turn it off mute and then just turn the volume all the way down.)

If you can get sound out of the built-in speakers and the icon is still showing, it is almost certainly going to be a fault with the TV. You could try unplugging it, leaving it for a minute or two and then plugging it back it. This may well reset it.

Hope this helps!
