Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I have a Sony KF 50 WE 610 projection screen TV. It has worked perfectly since I bought it six or seven years ago. This morning I turned it on and the sound came on for a second, but then the sound went off and nothing else happened for about one minute. At the one minute mark it turned off by itself and the red indicator light blinked 5 times in a row... paused... blinked 5 times in a row... paused... and then blinked 5 times in a row again. When I powered it up again, the indicator light blinked a color combination of green and red 5 times, something I've never seen before. If you can help me figure out what the problem is, and what I would need to do to fix that problem, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks much in advance. Tommy V

Hello
Five consicutive blinks at a time and the stops and again blinks five; is its self diagonosis procedure. All modern Sony sets has this function included in its circuits. If the system control IC inside it detect any fatal fault inside its circuits system, it will give a signal to its power control unit to shut it down its high voltage outputs to protect the other components from further damage. In your set; as Sony describes; I quotes:-

  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
  • Actually the components marked in numberes will not be the same as in your TV. But the fault will it be.
If you have enough knoledge in electronics and have a concept of soldering and have a good quality multimeter; youreself can do this work by home. OK

Problem with sony lcd projection tv kf-60we610 picture color changing

5 Years!!!! Wow...you guys must barely watch any TV for a lamp to last that long. Most people average every 2 Years or so. Just go out and buy a brand new lamp...Approx. $200 plus tax or so. Should solve your problem ;^)

But before you do... just in case... go into your TV Menu and reset your video setting to factory... its very easy to do on screen (no manual required). Cheers!

You can try doing this, turn on the Tv and select the service menu, if that tint also shows on the menu, it's most probable to be your DMD board, but if it doesn't it might be the video board..

    60 " SONY KF60WE610 screen went greenish

Depending on when you bought this TV, this could be the lamp. Does the red light below the green light come on? (That's the lamp light). This light typically comes on around the 3rd year of use for an average individual. I've recently enountered the same problem and will try to replace the lamp myself. Apparently its very simple.
