You have to pay about $2000 to send it off to a facility which has a clean room.

Very Expensive and time consuming.

Here is one of the best ones:
http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/ They will normally give you a quote over the phone.

Hope this helps. If it does please remember to leave feedback.

Hard drive ned repair

Depending upon what is wrong with the hard drive it most likely cannot be repaired.
When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death".
There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

The SMART function on your computer monitors your SATA hard drive to let you know if it is at risk of failing. This software detects bad sectors on your hard drive and repairs them when you initiate a repair. You can use the Disk Utility on your Apple computer to repair the SMART errors on your hard drive. The Disk Utility has an easy to use interface so even a novice can perform this task.

Insert your OSX install disc into the computer's optical drive. Start the computer while holding down the "C" key. Choose your language from the menu that appears. Click the "Installer" tab and then click "Open Disk Utility" form the menu, Click the "Disk Utitlity" icon from the menu and then click the "First Aid" tab at the top of the menu. Click the "Repair Disk" button and wait for the repair to complete. Restart your computer. Windows PC Click the "Start" button and then click on the "Computer" option. Right-click on your SATA hard drive and then click the "Properties" button. Click on the "Tools" tab and then click the "Check Now" button. Click on the box next to "Automatically fix file system errors" and then box next to "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. It might take some time depending on the of the disk be patient. Have no input while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your hard drive. Click the "Start" button. Hhd security lock reset password

Download the HDD Unlock Wizard diagnostic tool free from the link on the HDD Unlock page. The program allows you to test the program to see if it can recognize your hard disk before you attempt to unlock your drive. Double-click the icon in the "Downloads" folder and click "Run" to launch the program setup, then follow the HDD Unlock Wizard Setup Wizard to install.

Open the Unlock Wizard and click "Next" to get to the drive selection screen. The program automatically displays any drive that it can recognize in the "Drive selection" window and its status.

Select the name of the hard drive from the "Drive selection" window. Click "Next" to move into the status screen of the Wizard, then "Next" again to move to the unlock screen.

Go to the HDD Unlock page and purchase a virtual unlock card code for the program. The code will be emailed the email address you provide on the website. You must have an unlock code in order to complete the unlocking process with the HDD Unlock Wizard.

Enter your code into the provided box in the HDD Unlock Wizard. Once the code is entered, the Wizard will unlock the hard disk by erasing the data and re-certifying the drive, restoring it to its original factory settings.

Shut down the computer and boot it back up after the Unlock Wizard is finished the unlocking process. The computer hard disk should be unlocked and restored to factory settings.

1. Repair Station

Download the Repair Station diagnostic tool from HDD Tools and install it on your computer. Unlike HDD Unlock Wizard, Repair Station attempts to unlock the hard disk without erasing the information on the drive.

Register with your name and email address and create a login and password on the HDD Tools page. You must have a login and password to use the Repair Station tool.

Open Repair Station on your computer and go through the program screens to run the diagnostic test on your hard drive. If the hard disk appears in the list of available drives, Repair Station can unlock it.

Buy a Repair Station license code. The code will be emailed to the email address you provide. Enter the code into the provided box in the Repair Station application. Repair Station will attempt to unlock only the firmware area of the hard disk, without affecting the other information stored on the disk.

Restart the computer when Repair station is finished working. The hard disk should be unlocked without any effect on the rest of the system

Loud clicking from external lacie hard drive, turn it on then a couple of seconds later it starts clicking, click, click, click, click, click, .....,.....,.....(nothing for about 2-3 seconds)...

The disk-drive inside the casing has a probably-fatal problem.

Search online for a professional "Data Recovery Service";
ship them your disk-drive, they repair it, just long-enough to copy
all your files onto a brand-new disk-drive, or to burn to DVD-recordable media. Their services are _EXPENSIVE_ -- but "invaluable".

How to install external hard disk for mac

Hi,

Jeena you can just connect the hard drive to the mac it will recognize it & it will install the drivers automatically.

Before using it you have to format the drive using the Apple's disk utility.

First, locate the 10.2 CD and start up the iMac using the CD (insert CD, restart computer, immediately hold down C key).
Do not click on the installer screen. Instead go to the Installer Menu (or Options) and select Disk Utility.

When that opens, click on the second icon at the top left, then click on Repair Disk. Watch the activity screen. If it does any repairs, you will need to click on the Repair Disk button a second time. This is to make sure it finds all the problems and repairs them. You want to see no reference to repairs made - which may mean you have to click on that button three or four times.

How much memory is installed on the computer? To find this, just go to the Apple menu at the top far left and select About This Mac. The window that opens will give you the amount of memory installed, processor speed and exactly what OS version you are running.

How much empty available space is on the hard drive? To find this, just open a window. At the very bottom you should see how many items and how much available space.

You can use the SMART to run the diag on your had drive from

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/smartutility.html

The additional tasks which can be performed by using disk tility can be found :

http://www.macworld.com/article/51199/2006/06/julyworkingmac.html

This will solve your problem.

Good Luck.
