I bought a 2 GB memory for my Acer aspire from Crucial .com and replaced it with my 2x 512 MB RAM. It is working fine but I just want to know if I could add one of my previous 512 back to make it a total of 2.5 GB.Many thanks in advance.

If you have an empty Ram slot left then it should be no problem.

Short answer...Yes. Best answer.....Go buy another of the same and add that in making it 4GB total...much faster than 2.5GB and cheap speed, then sell those 2X512MB strips on e-bay as a pr. (1024MB Total=2X512MB).

First off; Go to; download the free Belarc Advisor, install & run it, then print the results (A free clean util. that will give you a full hardware/software inventory of the computer). On the right side it will list what RAM is installed in what slots. Next, go to www. and download the free Crucial System Scanner Tool, run it and print the results. This will give you the specs of what's installed now and all of the upgrade possibilities. (2 free tools). Now you know max. the motherboard will take, and you should upgrade to that maximum if you can afford it. Research the RAM by Specs on E-Bay for Pricing. IE: An Acer Aspire One 752 model has 2 slots and takes up to 2GB's in each slot (Total 4 GB..Though less than Vista 64 Bit OS will only recognize and use 3.0 to 3.5 GB's), 200 Pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400(Laptop RAM) Does not require matching Pairs-No ECC (Error Correcting), and a total maximum of 4096 megabytes installed RAM (1GB=Approx. 1024MB), so (4096MB's=4GB's). So you would order 2X2046MB=2 GB's each X 2=$ Gb's Total of PC2-6400 200 Pin 800Mhz SODIMM (Laptop RAM). Currently priced on Tiger Direct new for: 2 X 2048MB ($29.99 Each plus Shipping - Would need to order and install 2=Total upgrade cost $60.00 plus shipping=Cheapest Speed you can buy). It will feel like a new computer after the upgrade if currently has under 1 GB installed and XP/ or under max GB installed Vista or higher. Then go to then drivers & downloads, (Download all your driver updates while there and make yourself a CD of the updated drivers too, make folders for each driver in a New Hardware Folder in "Documents" or "My Documents", burn them to CD/DVD after the install of each), enter your model # and find the Manual section, download the manual, look for upgrade will give you instructions to install your new RAM. I usually order based on the specs the Crucial tool puts out from E-Bay, Crucial & or Tiger Direct for best pricing. (Depending on the model, for most laptops the RAM slots are located easy access on the bottom of the case, some are 1 slot bottom, 1 slot under keyboard...Both are replaceable. I personally do a RAM upgrade for cost of RAM + Shipping and a 10%~20% Labor Surcharge. If I am performing a cleanup or any other work on a computer I do the upgrade for RAM cost only. Good Luck! cglrcng

Great answer CGLRCNG, but next time don't just add it as a comment to someone else's answer. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see text box labeled SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. Type your answer in there and click POST THIS SOLUTION, then you can be credited with the solution and some thumbs up if the customer or other users like your answer. If you just ADD A COMMENT onto other people's solutions, you won't get any credit towards your expert rating.
Good luck and keep up the good detailed answers. ---Joe.

If you have an open slot it may work sometimes memory will not work with other memory of different bus speed. if the memory itself was meant to work in pairs it may not work as well. try it no harm can come of it. goodluck

How do yo get to the memory and can I add 1GB to the existing1!GB or do I have to purchase a 2 GB memory...thanks

Most laptops have 2 memory slots, if you have 1 Gb of RAM using two 512 Mb RAM then you need to replace them with two 1 Gb RAM modules. If you have one RAM module 1 Gb then you only need to add another 1 Gb RAM module. Try to use the same make and speed RAM.

I have Acer laptop Aspire 5570z module Zr1 with memory 1GB I want to increase memory 2GB or 3GB Is it possible or not What will be the expenditure?

Your laptop's RAM is upgradeable to up to 4 GB using two DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM modules.

So your upgrade options here are:
1. Buy a 1 GB DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM module & install it to get a total RAM of 2 GB (Price around US$ 25).
2. Buy a 2 GB DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM module & install it to get a total RAM of 3 GB (Price around US$ 45).

I have 512 mg of memory. Would there be a big difference if I add a 1 gb stick and keep the 512 mb , as oppose to removing the 512 mb and replace with two 1 gb sticks?

The performance of your laptop will improve if similar memory is placed in each of memory slot.If 1gb memory and 512mb memory are placed in available slot you will only get the performance of a single 1gb memory.but two 1gb memory are used performance will be similar to a 2gb ram or more.

What is the maximum memory capacity of acer aspire 5600 model

According to the specs of this laptop model, it supports up to 4 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory using two soDIMM modules. This means that you will have to replace the 512 MB memory module already installed in your laptop, & replace it with 2 soDIMM DDR2 533/667 MHz memory modules, each of 2 GB capacity.
