Question about Kenmore 20.3 cu. ft. / 575 liter Upright Freezer 23024

2 Answers

I have a Upright Freezer, Model 253.9280411, that has the temp alarm blinking and the sound alarm going off every 24 hours. The freezer appears to be keeping the correct temp (-10 Degrees C) so it appears the sensor circuit may be a problem. All the seals are fine. Can the sensor be cleaned or do I need to replace a module? Somehting else to check before calling in for repair?

I took off the back panel where the temperature control is and cleaned and checked the connections. Everything looked fine. It still has the same problem. I was going to check the connections on the control board on the front where the alarm indicators are. DO I need to remove the all the screws around the inside of the door seal to get to this? What should the temperature be in the freezer?

  • don_ruffing Mar 25, 2011

SOrry for not getting back sooner - was out of town.

I wanted to verify the temperature that it was between -10 and 10 and found out it stayed between 20F to 30F. I set the control for level 1 and it stayed around 30F and the alarm didn't go off. When I set it to 3 it dropped to 22F and the alarm went off. Should I still take off the front door and check all the connections to the control board. Does the freezer use two sensors to control the temperature? I did notice one sensor that was connected into the temperature control dial inside the freezer and it looked pretty good.

  • don_ruffing Mar 25, 2011

My upright freezer is only keeping the temperatur between 22F and 31F. Ive taken off the control inside the unit and checked all the connections and they look good. The next step is to take off the door and check all the connections to the control boad in the door. I did see a sensor connected to the control knob in the unit and was wondering if there is another sensor somewhere that might be bad or loose

  • don_ruffing Mar 25, 2011

Do you know if there are two sensors on this model? It's an upright and I did find one inside near the control knob for the temperature. When you say replace the sensor circuit is that the one in the door or the one or the one inside the unit near the temperature control knob?
    Thanks

  • don_ruffing Mar 27, 2011

I see the sensor coming off the temp control knob - is there another sensor that is connected to the front door electronics? Is the sensor circuit you refer to the one in the door? Is there a site where I can get a schematic?

Hi,May be because the interior temperature is too warm. Check that the lid or door to the freezer is closed. If it was accidentally knocked open within the last few hours this problem can result. Check freezers operating temperature with an accurate thermometer. Should be approximately 5 degrees Fahrenheit for an upright freezer and -10 degrees Fahrenheit for a chest freezer. If not as indicated telephone for service.

You can also replace the sensor circuit that might do too..

Take care..

i think you would need to contact a repair man from Kenmore company to assist you .

Also if the freezer is still on guarantee, you could simply take it back for the m to fix it for you or give you a replacement..

I think you're problem is the control board. However if the sensor is accessible I would make sure that it is clean and that all connectionts to control board are clean and secure. I also would unplug your freezer for a few mins. then plug back in.Turn thermostat all the way up then all the way down. Leave it on lowest setting fof 1/2 hour then turn back to normal setting.
I would monitor the temperature every few hours and if it maintains I would leave it alone. If you call for service most lkely they are going to sell you a new board wheather you need it or not. Good luck and thanks.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but my grandson is spending the weekend with us so I don't get much chance to sit. If I remember right all of the screws need to be removed and I would set the thermostat between -10 and 10 on the freezer . Thank you.

I think at this time you need to call a service tech and see if that alarm is faulty and what else is going on. You really need temperature lower than 20 degrees so you may need other maintaience work done at this time. Good luck and thank you.

Why is the temperature alarm light on, on my freezer Model# FFU21M8CW?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the temperature alarm light is on for your Frigidaire freezer, model# FFU21M8CW. This feature is designed to provide a warning of a possible malfunction. If the temperature of the food rises to a level unsafe for long-term storage, the buzzer will sound. The red light, if equipped, will also glow. The Temp Alarm feature operates on household electricity. If power fails, the alarm will not function. An ON/OFF switch allows you to deactivate the Temp Alarm when not wanted. Your freezer is shipped with the Temp Alarm in the OFF position. After your freezer has run approximately 4 hours, the red light, if equipped, will go off. Then you may activate the Temp Alarm without the alarm sounding. Press the ON switch to activate the Temp Alarm. To deactivate, press the OFF switch. If the alarm sounds, be sure freezer is properly leveled, and the door closes freely, and seals properly. If you suspect a technical malfunction, call an authorized servicer immediately. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

I have a Zanussi Freezer Model ZFT710FW. The alam and red light occasionally go off, although everthing appears OK. Temp OK, door seal looks good, etc. After some time the red light goes off of its own...

Red Alarm Indicator Light
Under normal operating conditions, the internal temperature of the freezer will ensure the long-term conservation of the stored food. When such temperature rises above a certain level (-12 °C), the appliance will trigger an acoustic and light alarm. The light alarm is a blink red light (Red Alarm Indicator Light), while the acoustic alarm is an intermittent sound.
You can stop the acoustic alarm by pressing the Acoustic Signal Stop Switch once.

When switching on the freezer for the first time, the Red Alarm Indicator Light will blink until the internal temperature has reached a level required for the safe conservation of frozen food.

Fast Freeze function
If more than 3-4 kg of food is to be frozen:
1. Press the Fast Freeze Switch for 2-3 seconds to activate the fast-freeze function 6-24 hours before placing the fresh food in the freezer, the Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator Light will illuminate. The compressor will now run continuously, to ensure that the fresh food is frozen as quickly as possible.
2. It is possible to deactivate the function at any time by pressing the Fast Freeze Switch for 2-3 seconds.
3. Place the foods in the freezing compartments (indicated with graphics).
4. Once the food is completely frozen (it may take up to 24 hours) you can manually switch off the fastfreeze function by pressing the Fast Freeze Switch for 2- 3 seconds and the Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator light will also go out.
5. Move frozen food from the freezing compartments into the other compartments (storing compartments) to make room for another freezing.

If the Fast Freeze Switch is accidentally left on, the fast-freeze function will be automatically switched off 48 hours later. The Yellow Fast Freeze Indicator light will also go out.

I believe that you all understand. If you intend to freeze larger amount of food then certainly a few hours before some shopping switch on the fast freeze function.

Temp Alarm going off, when freezer seems to be cooling fine.

You need to check the temp in the freezer to make sure it's down to around 10 degrees. The alarm will go off much above that.

Its keeps peeping

Hello twins49
Welcome to Fixya,

You said, your Frigidaire freezer 17 cu. ft. , it keeps buzzing or peeping
The alarm may be malfunctioning or it may be warning you of low temperature.
You can go to any hard ware store and buy a refrigerator thermometer and ask them if it can go into a freezer too!It can, But ask anyway!

If it is cold enough then it is a faulty alarm going off.

Your freezer may be equipped with an alarm.
Here is some information that may help you find it and turn it off if you wish

Temp Alarm (audible only or audible with warning light)

This feature is designed to provide a warning of possible malfunction. If the
temperature of the food rises to a level unsafe for long-term storage, the buzzer will
sound. The red light will also glow on models so equipped. The Temp Alarm feature
operates on household electricity. If power fails, the alarm will not perform. An ON/
OFF switch allows you to deactivate the Temp Alarm when not wanted. The freezer
is shipped with Temp Alarm in the OFF position. After freezer has run approximately
4 hours, the red light, if equipped, will go off. Then you may activate the Temp Alarm
without the alarm sounding.
Press the ON switch to activate the Temp Alarm. To deactivate, press the OFF switch.
If the alarm sounds, be sure freezer is properly leveled, and the door closes freely, and
seals properly. If you suspect a technical malfunction, call an authorized servicer
immediately.

Let me no what you find.

Loud buzzing noise

IF YOUR FREEZER HAS A TEMP ALARM, USUALLY LOCATED IN FRONT,BOTTOM, RIGHT CORNER, THE TEMP IS PROBABLY ABOVE THE SAFE TEMP FOR FREEZERS, (10 DEGREES) AND SO THE ALARM WILL SOUND.

THERE SHOULD BE A SWITCH IN FRONT TO SHUT OFF THE ALARM UNTIL THE TEMP GETS BACK DOWN TO ZERO. THEN YOU CAN TURN THE ALARM BACK ON.

IF YOU PLUG IN THE FREEZER AND TURN IT ON, IT SHOULD BE BACK DOWN TO NORMAL TEMP (IF IT IS EMPTY) IN ABOUT 24 HOURS. IF IT ISN'T, YOU HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS. CHECK TO BE SURE THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING.
