SOURCE: Danby Silhouette Wine cooler won't

Hi sooner84,
I really like the Danby wine coolers, they are usually nice products. As far as your problem, I would first try to find out where the main problem area is. To do that first make sure that your compressor is running. If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then you may have a freon charge issue. Thats not to say that you can just put some more freon in and it is fixed, You would have a leak in your sealed system and you would most likely still have warranty coverage for that. Most Danby products carry a 5 year sealed system warranty. That would include your compressor.
If the compressor is not running then you would know that you have a compressor issue. Either the relay overload on the compressor would need to be replaced or the compressor itself was bad. You can buy relay kits for about $30.00 and intall them easily with very little experiance.
Next if the compressor is doing its thing and trying to cool you could have a fan not blowing air properly. either a condenser or evaporator fan may have stopped. If you find one not working then chances are you just need a fan. If the fans are blowing and the compressor is working then you would just have a defrost problem. In that case you would just need to defrost then check for bad parts, either a defrost heater, defrost thermostat or a defrost timer. Most of the Danby products have a defrost control board, that board willl contorl the defrost, the temperature, and the fans. If the board was cheap I would say just put one on and see if it fixed the problem, but they are around $145.00.
The most important thing for you would be to make sure you are not going to do something that would void your warranty. Free service is always the best. Good luck to you and send some wine my way, I make lots of different types. from grapes, strawberrys, muskedyne, etc.... mca0824@aol.com

I am having a problem with my wine cooler also.I found the upper evap fan not running. So i opened up the control board and plugged the fan that was not working into one of the other 2 sockets, and the fan worked.so i have a circuit board problem. If you go online to sears parts and repair.put in your model# and search,it will bring up a diagram of most of the parts available. And no it doesnt have to be a GE product.

Where do i add r134a freon to frigidaire gallery refrigerator model frs26zth

U don't unless you get the correct size shraeder valve and install it on the suction line. And when you do add freon it has to be done very carefully since refrigerators are very fussy about the correct amount of refrigerant. They are not tolerant of slight overfills/underfills like air conditioners.

Should use gauges to monitor suction line pressure

I have a frigidare #PLKU1267DSO kegbox. the compressor runs and gets hot but the box will not cet cold at all. the coils inside also have rust on them

Your keg box runs very similar to a Wine Cooler. I believe this can help you. The pressure for the freon and the steps for trouble shooting is he same. Give it a try.

How do you connect a/c charger to make your central air cooler

The 1998 Dodge Caravan ac should be charged at the low pressure service port. This port is located on the suction line near the compressor. The suction line can be identified by it's size, it being the larger of the two line connected to the compressor. You must purchase a recharge kit at your local part store, which should include charging hose with pressure gauge and a can of R134a freon. Gloves and eye protection should be worn during servicing.(freon can freeze your eyes and cause frost bite to your hands). Connect freon to charging hose, connect charging hose to low pressure service port, open valves and start engine, turn on ac. If compressor won't start it may be required to disconnect the low pressure switch and jump out the connector.

How do I replenish the Freon in my Sillouette model DWC283BLS?

you legally can't unless you are e.p.a. certified to purchase the type of freon in the unit and you have the equipment to do so,by law you need to evacuate the sealed system, then pressurize system with nitrogen and a small amount of r22freon,find the leak, recapture nitrogen/r22 and repair leak, then recharge unit with correct amount of correct refrigerant it needs, the equipment to do so is very expensive too

Brand new out of box and will not cool - after 12 hours - compressor is very hot ?

First question is, are there any fans that are built in that are not running? next is there may be no freon in the unit. Ive seen new stuff from the factory have no freon inside. feel the suction line (the bigger one) from the compressor. It should be cool. The discharge line (smal one) should be hot.

Danby Refrig DFFC1WDB, two years old, in my vacation home that I visit one weekend a month. Lights flashing, power cycled (after req'd 5 mins). Discovered coils were packed with ice. See below: 1.) Danby Refrigerator DFFC1WDB, about two years old, in my vacation home that I visit one weekend a month 2.) Never defrosted it manually before (i.e. turned off and left to defrost) 3.) For some time I noticed the light inside the fridge was flashing, but the refrigerator seemed to be cooling okay and the manual says nothing about what the flashing light means. I attributed it to a power failure and the flashing stops once the unit is unplugged and plugged back in (power cycled) after 5 minutes or so. 4.) This visit I noticed the flashing lights again and that the freezer was cold (it was heavily loaded) but fridge was barely cool. I power cycled the fridge (allowing 5 minutes) and the flashing stopped but I was concerned about the issue and threw out some food. 5.) I unplugged the unit again and removed everything from the freezer. I noticed a thick coating of ice on the freezer back wall. I used a hair dryer to melt this coating of ice and then realized that the coils behind this wall must be covered in ice. I removed the back wall exposing the coils and discovered that I was correct: The coils were completely covered/packed with ice, so I greatly sped up the melting process with the hair dryer. After all, I had food sitting in coolers with ice and wanted to return it to the freezer and fridge asap. 6.) Once all the ice was gone I left the freezer open for a while for the coils and assembly to cool (since I had used a hair dryer to melt away the ice pack) 7.) I set the freezer and fridge to their coldest settings and plugged it back in. The lights do not flash when I plugged it back in. The compressor (I assume) ran for a while (the fan in the freezer ran also), and during this time I heard the unit lightly buzzing (with life), and then it stopped. But it seemed to have quite a way to go when it stopped and the freezer and fridge were not nearly cold enough at that point. I surmised that it might be entering one of its periodic defrosting periods, but after quite a while of waiting it still hadn't started running again so I power cycled the unit again and again the compressor/fan ran for a while and then stopped. It just doesn't seem to be starting on its own unless I power cycle it (waiting the required 5 minutes before plugging it back in.) At this point I don't have confidence that it is cooling well enough to keep my food fresh (and frozen). 8.) What do you think could be wrong? It certainly seems reasonable that the part/system responsible for periodically defrosting the coils may have failed. But since the unit is completely defrosted now, why does the unit only run for a short time after unplugging/replugging and never run again?
