Removal of the timer knob.

I am attempting to replace the water level knob on my washer, however, I cannot get the timer knob off in order to replace the part. How do I remove it without breaking it?

I am actually a ******** and didn't try to replace the piece from behind the washer. Once the washer was moved and a look behind the machine was taken...I didn't have to remove any of the knobs, beside the one on the water level piece.

You have two different knobs to replace? it the water level knob or the timer knob?
if its the timer knob you need to remove, look underneath the timer and you will find a black plastic pin depressed at the middle. pull it slowly for about 1/4 of an inch.

then you can remove the knob in the front of the timer switch.

in putting it back, install the knob first in the timer and then depressed that black plastic pin to lock the knob.

be carefull not to pull the plastic pin all the way out. it would be very hard to put it back in.

The cut off system for the water level no longer works and it overflows if you dont manually move the knob forward

If the appliance works when you move the knob forward it means that the timer work is working and that the inlet valve is not stuck open. In that case the problem is the water level switch that does not cut off when water level reaches the limit. The water level switch is a pressure switch.

Replace the water level switch. before replacing the switch you can check its connectors and try cleaning the rubber hose attached to the switch. The pressure switch is located in the control assembly and is part nr.10 in diagram below:

Here the part for the model indicated in title:SWITCH PRESSURE (Pressure Switch)

The knob for my Kenmore 500 machine for water level broke off so I ordered a new one. I did take back off of washer and found out later I did not have to. Neighbor showed me how to take off top part of...

It's quite possible that when you released the console to replace the water level switch you disconnected the Lid Switch.

If the Lid Switch is disconnected the washer will likely not agitate, spin or drain and you won't hear the motor.

Check for a white plastic plug connected to the console and another connected to the cabinet.

I have a Sears Kenmore washing machine The water does not stop running on any level and over filled the washer. Sears said it wash the timer so i ordered it, replaced it and it still does not stop...

More likely the water level sensor is faulty or blocked..
As the water level rises, air is pressed through a tube which is connected to the water level control knob. If the control is faulty or the hose is diconnected the machine will fill, and overflow.
Best bet is to call a serviceman and have the waterlevel controller checked.... Not a big job..... Good luck.... Nomess

Washer didnt fill when turned on, but filled when holding "reset"

sounds like your water level switch is bad OR the small hose that goes from the waterlevel switch to the bottom of the tank has a hole in it.Try replacing this small hose can go to an auto parts store and match it's usually about 3' long and about 1/4" inside diameter and about 99cents a foot.

Tub fills with water......that's it.

This is probably a bad timer motor.

Two screws on right/left of head, flip head back. You will see a small motor on the timer that operates when the timer is set. If this isn't running, then you need to replace that or the entire timer. Probably easier to change just the motor.

Best luck in your repair

Washer is over filling.

Yup! I know what's going on (the tip off was when you said, "The water does stop when I push the timer off"). See? the timer, as I'm sure you know, supplies or "directs" power to each component in the washer... kinda like a conductor does an orchestra. When you push the timer knob to "Off", you shut down the symphony thereby removing power from all of the components. Make sense?

When you set the water level and pull the knob, the level switch tells the timer that the tub is empty and request water. The timer complies and sends power to the water valve. When the water level is "satisfied", the level switch tells the timer to remove power from the valve and start the "agitation" cycle.

Here's what's happening, the level switch isn't talking to the timer. I think the part number is 22002705, but I'm not sure because I don't have the full model number. Call you local appliance retailer and provide them with the full model number to be sure, OK? Since you already have the machine apart, it'll be easy to replace...

Oh yeah, here's a picture of it... see if this one matches the one on you machine. This might confirm the part number.

And another thing, now that you've experienced a washer flood (ain't it fun?), you might want to consider getting yourself one of these. They're super easy to install and it'll provide that extra bit of insurance against this happening to you again.

Don't forget to rate this solution. And thanks for using FixYa!

Kenmore Series 80 Washer timer knob spins

Something in the timer came apart. Timer needs replaced. When in good working order, the timer should ONLY ever be turned clockwise..Reversing this could break it.

LTE6234 Whirlpool Twin Thin Timer Broken?

Check for voltage at the water inlet valve with the timer dial pushed in or in an off position. If no voltage replace the water valve. If you do have voltage you'll have to trace the circuits back from the water valve to the line. One point of demarcation is the water level switch. Pull the violet colored wire and see if it still fills while off. If it does it's likely the timer's bad.
