Hi,
If you are getting power 24v to the gas valve... then they can only be two things causing it not to open...

Then gas valve is bad...
or..
The incoming gas pressure is too high...
if the incoming gas pressure is over 14 in. WC then the gas valve will not open...

Anything else that would stop the gas valve from opening will be in the circuit before the gas valve and interrupt the voltage to the gas valve...

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

First you will need to get a hold of a digital or analog multimeter and set it for the lowest range of Ohms you can. Your safety circuit is a string of several switches all strung together in a row with the gas valve at the end and the beginning of said string. Any one switch being open or a bad connection anywhere in the circuit and the heater will not fire.

You task is to remove one end of the circuit from the valves TH or TT post and put one end of you meter on that wire and the other end on the TH/PP terminal. It will likely read infinite resistance. Leave one meter lead where it is and remove the other. Follow the circuit from the connected lead up to the first switch. Check continuity from the lead left connected to both sides of the switch. If there is continuity to both sides the switch is fine. Keep moving from switch to switch until you find the bad switch or connection. There may be more than one. When the circuit is working properly and there is nothing within the heater to cause it to shut off you should have 5 ohms or less across the entire circuit. Once you get the reading to that level the heater will work as it should

If you are not familiar with the process I described you would be better served hiring a pool technician to perform this repair as you can cause significant damage to the heater if you do not repair it properly.

You'll need a slack tube manometer to measure inlet and outlet gas pressure. If your inlet is 14" down to about 7" it is OK as Heatman states. Check it on the manifold side while the heater is trying to start and you are getting the 24V to the valve. If you are not getting pressure on the manifold side replace the valve. If you are please check the pressure to the rating found in the ID tag inside the heater. The number you want is manifold pressure...If it is the correct reading replace the ignitor once you confirm there is nothing obstructing the orifices on the manifold. If nothing is reading on the manifold side replace the valve.

MY LAARS LITE 2 wont light, the pilot is on, the temporature controls and the presure switch have been replaced...the pool guy is suggesting it could be the gas valve? Thoughts

Often if the pressure switch is open it is because of something keeping the pressuer low rather than a problem with the switch itself. If you take a small wire and bridge the pressure switch and other components in the system. If the heater fires when one of these are bridged that is where your problem. Two wires come from your gas valve and go to the pilot and another two are the safty circut. This is where you will find the components I am talking about. A small black rubber tube covers a place in the wire just above the burners and the pressure switch are the two big trouble spots.
If the black tube is shrunk around the wire then you have had a roll out problem with your flame. If it is your Pressure switch then it could be a dirty filter or a dirty basket. Or it could be a water flow problem and you will have to make all your valves are set to have water run through heater. I hope this helps.

Pilot will light but main burner will not light

if burner lights after jumping valve you have something wrong in thermostat loop. disconnect the 2 thermostat wires on gas valve and use multimeter on continuity setting. if all wires ,connectors and components are good, you will get a tone.since you have jumped out each component in thermostat loop with no success ,i would suspect a bad wire or oxidation on a terminal .

check power pile conections on gas control valve.it is the 2 wires that come from pilot asembly.if they are loose or have rust or oxidation this can affect pilot and cause intermittent outage. let me know

Laars lite 2 pool heater burner not lite

If the pilot flame is not strong enough, it will not tell the gas valve to open, or if the gas valve is not getting the signal to open, it won't. Check all wire connections at the thermostat and gas valve. Check ground wires. Clean the pilot light and flame rod.
