What type of power source is it hooked to? straight to car battery or some other power source? Sometimes cart alternator noise is picked up by radios. Try hooking the power source up differently

fiberglass,no ground plane. Did you use the meters on the radios to match your antennas or a seperate external might have to run your own coax and hook up a mirror mount bracket and put your favorite antennas on them then match them and ground them to the chassis use common sense to show you what to do next and you should be getting out great. Sometimes people change the antennas on those trucks with built in antennas and don't realize that the coax has just fallen out of site into the body somewhere. thats why I said install your own.

I have hooked my the radio to a constant hot and grounded it. The antenna is a midland antenna a is window mounted. All the cables are hooked up but I cannot receive anything and all I put out is a...

You may have a couple issues. First is the whine when you key the mic. Change the mic to any newer 4 pin mic. See if this helps a bit. Also make sure your antenna is a match. Hook up an SWR meter inline and check it. 1-1:5 is the goal but no lower than 2. Your antenna is much of the set up. Spare no cost when purchasing. Do you have one of the older antennas that roll up in the window? I suggest you get at least a Wilson 300 and try that. Window mounted CB antennas do not receive the best at all. And they have no ground plane. You try what I listed and see if that don't help. Let me know if that helps.

I recently got a (old) Realistic CB Radio and i bought a brand new antenna. I hooked it all up and wired it through the cigarette lighter. When i turn it on, instead of squelch i get a loud...

If the mic is not the original mic for the radio, it may not be wired correctly for the radio. This could cause it to make this noise.

Because the channel numbers do not come up, this concerns me. You may have hooked the radio up backwards. If this is the case you could have seriously damaged the radio. This is why I don not like cigarette lighter plugs for CB radios.

At this point, if you find you hooked i up wrong, even if you flip it, it will not work because you blew out a diode in the radio and it needs replacing. The audio chip may also need replacing if you kept trying to use it.

Tunning the antenna on radio shack cb trc-447

After installing the antenna, follow these steps to adjust the
standing wave ratio(SWR).
1. Turn on the CB.
2. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to CAL.
3. Key the Mic and rotate SWR CAL so the meter points
to CAL.
4. Unkey Mic.
5. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to SWR.
6. Key Mic again and note the actual measurement on
the SWR scale. Refer to the following table to interpret
the reading.

1:1 - 1.5 Great
1.5 - 2:1 OK
2:1 - 3:1 Not So Good
Higher than 3.1:1 Terrible

The ideal standing wave ratio (SWR) is 1:1, or a meter
reading of 1 on the SWR meter's top scale. A SWR ratio
of 1.5:1 to 2:1 is excellent for most mobile CB antenna

Check the SWR on Channel 1 and Channel 40
If the SWR is higher on 1, make the antenna longer
If the SWR is higher on 40, make the antenna shorter
Most antenna's are adjustable. Make small adjustments at a time.

Can recieve but not transmit

The mic wires are soldered incorrectly. Get another cobra mic for that radio or have a qualified radio tech correct the wiring.

No sound

Check the mic, it can make your radio do funny things if its bad, and a lot of times its the last thing people look for. I had a Cobra 29XLR from 1974...peaked tuned, echo installed...worked great for about three days, then nothing at all. I was bull cause I just dumped 110 bucks into it. I was ready to toss it, then my buddy grabbed it, put it in his Freightlner, hooked up his coax and Rk-56...SOUND!!! So stupid me almost spent another 200 bucks on a new one. So I went and bought an RK-56 for it, and it works awesome.

Cant transmit

Hello Darren, Yes it sounds like the mic is wired bass ackwards,,! A cobra 25 mic wiring is
PIN #1- Shield or ground wire
PIN#2- Audio or Transmit modulation
PIN #3- Transmit or Dead Key
PIN #4- Receive Audio.
When your keying the mic, the RX wires are being connected to make the RX work,,,
*** Let me know how you get along with it. Either buy a new mic wired for your radio or you or someone comfortable with soldering needs to resolder the correct wires back on the mic plug,,,Like I said, let me know and have a great day,, Mechanic is back quiet!

Sound problem

First, is the radio new? As long as the mic, antenna, and coax work properly with another cb radio, I would start with two areas:

1. make usre the PA/CB Switch is set to CB. I have seen many people accidentally bump the switch to PA and not know it. I have done it myself.

2. Turn you Squelch all the way counter-clockwise and your RF Gain clockwise.

If these make no difference, please reply with a comment so we can further assist you.

Matching Antenna, or ??????

If the antenna is tunable, you definitely need to start out by having the swr set properly on the antenna. Also, make sure the plastic ferrel, (the small round white piece) is between the top of the antenna bracked and the antenna itself. It is there to make sure the antenna does not ground out to the vehicle. If the antenna is grounding out, it will be like no antenna at all. I have also had a few customers that have had broken coaxes straight out of the factory package on cheaper antenna setups.
