Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Goodman Manufacture furnace, model #GMPN120-5. The furnace keep clicking on /off while asking for heat. I even turned the fan to the on position (instead of auto) and the problem continues. Heating and cooling company was called and they were not sure on the problem. I beleive that a resistor or capasitor is going bad but not sure. Please help!

Can you tell me if the burners are lighting at all? I need a little more information about the cycle. If the burners are lighting and then going off immediately you need to clean the flame sensor. A small rod on the opposite end of the burners from the glow bar. Let me know if this is the situation, or describe the cycle completely and I will try to help.

After one heat cycle, the blower motor keeps running, even after cool down is complete. The furnace will not refire until i turn off the power and wait about 20 minutes for a reset.

your limit switch is opening up, that causes constant fan. Check for flashing codes after flame shuts off and fan continues. Check airflow, filters, lack on return air for possible hi temp limit problems.

We turned on our older Goodman furnace (model GMPN080-4) for the first time this fall, and... nothing. The fan works when the thermostat is set to "off" or when the temp setting is lower than the actual...

I googled Goodman trouble codes, and found 3 blinks is an open pressure switch. At the top of the furnace there is an induced draft motor. It forces the combustion gases, after ignition, through the flue pipe. Try giving it a little turn. You should be able to see the little fins, like a small fan blade. With it in the off position, no demand hot heat, try spinning that lil fan blade in either direction. And the try the heat. If that don't work, its likely the water leak, from the coil, has damaged the motor or control board, and you need a technician. Hope this helps!

Furnace lights fan comes on then fan goes off furnace stays light until overtemp takes it out code flashes 4

Have some one hold the bottom door safety switch, turn furnace on wait until heating fan relay clicks, and check at terminal (Heat) & terminal (neutral or where all the white wires are located on the control board) for 115 volts to 120 volts. If voltage is present replace blower motor, if voltage drops out while running then replace control board.Turn power off to furnace, open bottom door and feel blower motor with hand, if motor is real hot replace motor. you can not oil this type of motor, it has to be replaced along with the compacitor. Good luck.

My furnace heats the house well, but during the cool down it actually blows cold air dropping the temperature causing the furnace to re-ignite. How do I adjust? Goodman - GMS9/GCS9

Depending on the age of the furnace you may be able to adjust the cool down. On some furnaces there is a silver box usually made by honeywell. This is your fan limit control. If you take the cover off you will see a dial with different temperature settings with 3 pins in a grove. The first one is fan on with temperature rise this turns the blower on when the furnace starts and warms up. The second is the fan off after furnace shuts down, this would be the one you want to adjust to a higher temperature to keep the blower from blowing cold air. The last pin is the high limit if the furnace gets to this temperature it will shut the furnace off but keep the blower running. Make sure that the thermostat fan option is set to auto and not on.

Is there a thermal Fan/Limit switch in this furnace? If so you may need to tweak the low range setting so it can turn off the blower.

Heater won't heat very long

there isnt a pilot if it has jets , it has a Hot surface ignitor. you should see a glow and then the jets light , if its running for a few min it may be overheating, have you changed the filter recently? you should also have a flash code you can locate when the furnace shut off and is no longer doin what its supposed to look thru the bottom door peep hole and watch for a series of red flashes. if you remove the cover after retrieving the flash code there will be a chart on the inside of the cover that will tell you why the furnace is shutting off. by the way the model # you gave is for the A/C coil above the furnace, not the furnace.

Goodman: My Power Venter (aka Heat and Draft Inducer) won't start

The power ventor most likely needs to be replaced. But be advised. Goodman normally will not sell parts to anyone but a certified technician. I had to show my masters certificate to buy parts from their outlet. This is a part that has a high rate of failure.
