Hello! The side that has the capacitor soldered to the terminal would be the positive side. Hope this helps!

I have a S24AWN-U56 condenser fan doesn't start once pushed with a screwdriver fan runs , is there s start capacitor for the fan?

There is no start capacitor, but there is a RUN capacitor. More than likely it will be a 'combination' run capacitor that shares the common terminal of a dual capacitor with a higher mfd side for the compressor. Typically a 35/5 or 40/5 rating is what you'll see on the side of the capacitor. It will be grey in color, possibly round or oval and near the size of a soda can.

What you are describing is a motor trying to start without the aid of its run capacitor, which momentarily allows a bit more amperage flow through the start winding than it does once the motor starts. This is what 'charges' the run capacitor, so turn off the power, note the position and terminals the wires are on, remove them with insulated pliers and short across ALL terminals to drain the potential charge before touching the spade clips with your bare fingers. Remove the capacitor and read the rating on the side for replacement. Contact just about any local HVAC company for a replacement or go to WWGrainger's website and see if you can buy one retail from them.

The three terminals will be marked 'C' for common, 'Herm' for compressor and 'F' or 'Fan' for the condensor fan. If you get any wire in the wrong place, you could potentially damage the compressor or the fan motor.

How do I wire this cord into rs1 single stage vacume pump It is 110 volt 1/4 horse It has a capacitor and on off switch also some little black box that I am not fermiliar with???? I need to wire in the...

It's difficult to tell from the picture but general rule is that positive power connects to the positive side of the capacitor and then positive lead from the capacitor is connected to the device (in this case a compressor). Repeat on the negative side as well. As far as the black box you mentioned(which I can't make out in the picture) is probably a relay with an on/off switch. A relay would get wired in on the positive side of the circuit.

I have a Cummins 1/2 hrs.bench grinder in pieces. 3 wires from the inside - Black, red, and blue. A capacitor with two male connectors on the end and a switch. How does it need to be wired?

The capacitor goes across the Line, terminals, of the Motor, The Black, should Be Neutral, the RED should be Power IN to the Switch, and the Blue, the "Other" side of the switch. The Capacitor, sometimes goes on the Spare (If any) Terminals of the "Cold" side of the Power Switch.
International color code is Red Positive or Phase, Blue, Phase or Positive, Black, usually Neutral, Negative .
The capacitor is a Suppression" capacitor, and is usually "Across the Motor terminals on "Cold" or "Switched" side of the circuit.
The circuit is simple, Neutral is "Common" the Power comes in to the Switch Contact, whereby the activation of said switch, joins the "Contacts" to the Phase. Positive, Wire to the "Motor". The "Other Terminal Wire from the Motor, goes to Common. The capacitor. Is installed in Parallel with the Phase and Neutral on the "Cold" or normally unpowered side of the circuit.

How do i charge a capacitor for sound system?

Hello gradycusick,

I'm assuming that your cap did not come with a "charging resistor" and instructions, or you bought it from someone used.

The recommended way to charge a capacitor is through a 500-1K ohm resistor, at least 5 watts. Connect a DC voltmeter to the cap leads, connect the positive side through the resistor and to battery positive, and connect the negative side to battery negative (or grounded to the vehicle frame). Do not hold the resistor. It will get HOT. When the voltmeter reads 12V, the capacitor is charged.

If you do not have the resistor or a voltmemter, you can simply use a 12V automotive bulb. Just connect the bulb in series with the battery positive and the capacitor and connect the negative side of the cap to battery negative. When the light goes out, the cap is charged.

You can see an example of both methods here.

Hope this helps.

Rockford 1 farad capacitor

The 1 farad capacitor is something added to current hungry systems to help keep the supply voltage at the proper operating level.
If your amp does not work after putting one in your system, but it worked before you put it in, you most likely have it installed wrong.
The capacitor should be put in parallel with the main +B voltage of the amplifier. That means you would connect the positive side of the capacitor to the +B voltage supply of the amplifier and the negative side of the capacitor would go to the chassis ground.

If you have it connected in series, or inline with the +B voltage supply, the capacitor would be blocking the voltage to the amplifier.

Without more information on your problem that is the best answer I can give you.
If this does not help, please supply more information and I will be happy to help you further.
