Re: How do I remove the selector knob on washer
The main selector control know spins off by turning the selector inner knob counterclockwise. The outer ring will then pull off. The other knobs are held on with friction and should just pull off.
The best way to get behind the front panel is by removing the top panel of the machine. There should be 2 gray/solver tabs at the back of the machine near the top if you remove the 2/4 screws from the top then the whole top panel will slide forward then lift off.

I understand that you are trying to replace the selector knob on your Frigidaire washer, GLTF2940E. Normally this is not a DIY job and we would recommend having a technician come out to the home in order to properly disassemble your front panel and replace the selector knob as needed. Hope this is helpful. -Matt
Disconnect power to machine. Remove bottom front panel by removing one screw from each lower corner of panel. Have a few old towels ready to catch water, and remove clamp at pump inlet. Fish out all the coins or other objects from the rubber boot pump inlet. Reassemble and test with the panel off first. If all OK and no leaks, replace panel.
I have a GE front loader and this problem drove me nuts after spending $$$$ and having this problem only after 2 years of operations! Please check the filter screen. Remove the screws that hold the front panel to the body. There will be water coming out, so have some towels and a pan to collect. Once the panel is removed, there is a knob for the filter screen which needs to be turned to remove. Have your pan ready because it will leak. You can clean the screen by hand removing the gunk (keep the money for your efforts, however :)) Replace the filter, turn to tighten, replace the front panel and screws and run the washer through a short cycle to check out everything and make certain there are no leaks before you walk away.Good Luck!
I believe the selector knob on a Whirpool just has to be turned counter-clockwise with the selector pushed in. It will spin off the shaft and then the outer indicator dial will pull off. The shaft also has a keyed slot that will only allow the dial to be removed and installed one way, so there should be no question as to how it goes back on.
Was there a reason as to why you are removing the washer selector knob? If this is a simple matter of replacing a broken water temperature selector, you shouldn't have to remove any of the control knobs to gain access to the selector. The entire front panel comes off by removing the screws holding it in place. That way you can access the broken selector from behind the front panel much easier. Just remove the panel right above the washer top (under the dryer) and it should expose the front panel mounting screws. Remove these screws and the front panel comes off. Just make sure the unit is unplugged before you begin. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need further assistance.
