Question about Miele 24 in. G646SC Plus Free-Standing Dishwasher

2 Answers

Hello, I have a problem with our Miele G646SC Plus dishwasher. It starts its cycle OK, draining out any residual water, taking in fresh water and doing the initial rinse. After about 5 minutes it then stops with the "inlet/drain" red light flashing. The detergent is still in the holder and the water is still cold. The filter at the bottom of the compartment is clean, the drain pump spins freely. I've also checked for any leaks in the bottom of the machine that would trip the styrofoam/microswitch leak detector, but its all dry in there. Any ideas before I call the repairman? Thank you in anticipation Andy Rolfe

Hello Joe - thank you for the reply. Would this explain why the machine stops and the "inlet/drain" red light flashes?

Hello Joe - thanks for the reply. Would the actuator arm failure explain why the machine stops and the red inlet/drain light comes on?

Thanks for the help Daniel, I have done the following checks on the drainage side.
    1) I've disconnected the drain hose from the waste pipe and put it into a bucket, then run the programme. From that I have seen that the machine is pumping the waste water out freely.
    2) I've checked that the filter and the non-return valve in the bottom of the machine are all clean.
    3) I've checked that the drain pump is rotating freely, both from inside the machine when I had the filter & valve out and also when I was looking underneath when I could spin the small plastic fan on the end of the spindle.
Also, as you suggested, I've reset the light and tried to run the programme again.
It starts its cycle OK, draining out any residual water, taking in fresh
water and doing the initial rinse. After about 5 minutes it then stops
with the "inlet/drain" red light flashing. The detergent is still in the
holder and the water is still cold.

    I'm stumped!

I've now got the answer off another site - "if led flashes > 2min from start,
    circulation pump jammed/faulty."

And unfortunately the circulation pump is £290, so looks like I'm buying a new machine. :(

Hi

The light flashing means an issue while draining. You would need to check for air gap on the dishwasher, it may be clogged. It prevents dishwasher from draining, sometimes the drain flow is restricted due to gunk. Cleaning or bypassing the air gap will resolve the issue. If this doesn't resolve the issue then it is due to seized (or stuck) drain pump. Disconnect the power to the dishwasher or turn off the breaker to the dishwasher. Tip machine on its back; remove screws that hold the bottom tray on. Remove the hoses to the main motor, remove electrical connections & remove motor (single screw holds motor, it is on the outside back of the machine). Try to rotate the motor (use WD40 is necessary). If you cannot rotate it, then motor will be required. If the error still appears then cancel the error message, turn the rotary selector switch to "Stop/End" or press the "Start/Stop" switch for approx. 5 secs. Switch the appliance off and then back on again. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Thanks for doing all that Andy....I believe it is the float switch causing this issue and should be replaced

Hello andy..... On many dishwashers, a plastic actuator arm mechanically links the timer to the detergent cup. When the timer reaches the proper time in the cycle, the timer activates a lever that opens the detergent cup. If the linkage is broken or defective, the cup stays closed after you've closed it. Check the link and repair or replace it, as necessary.

There is water residue on the dishes after the machine washing cycle ends

Depending on the residue, it is most likely poor rinse aid, or old detergent. If the water isn't hot enough you will consistently have this problem. If the residue won't come off, then you have a water softness issue and you need to use less detergent and a detergent with the highest phosphorous content you can buy.

Have miele g611sc dishwasher opened up after cycle lots of water and bubbles in bottom ??

Sounds like it is either not draining properly or the type of powder or tablets you are using is sudding up too much and will not drain away the bubbles.
The 611 is a small dishwasher and only requires a small amount of powder.

try running a few cycles with no powder and see if it drains the water away ok. if it does then it is the detergent.
if there is water left in the base at the end of the cycle check the drain hose connection under your sink and make sure there are no blockages on the u bend spigot where the hose connects. if the unit does have a fault like not draning then the inlet/drain light will lit up.

hope this helps

MieleG870sc I can hear the motor, but water does not seem to be coming in and after cycle ended, soap tablet was unused?

Hi,

First the unit drains and then fills with water. When the unit has intially drained open the door and manually fill the unit with water, about 5lts. This will then allow the dishwasher to go to the next step which is to circulate the water. If this works ok then the water tap is defective, water inlet valve is defective or the electronic unit is not sending the signal to activate the valve. The water inlet valve is the white square box attached to the tap. Remove this and check the filter and make sure water comes out of the tap.If ok then remove the bottom panel of the unit under the door. On the right hand side there is a 2 core cable with a male and female connector. Unplug this and check for voltage from the electronic when the unit goes to fill with water. If there is 240v then the electronic is ok. You will then need a new waterproof system from Miele.

Dishwasher not filling

Make sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the water shut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water to the dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fill cycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), in which case replace the water valve.

Another inlet / drain light cycle interruption problem!

When the water stops too soon, it could be the "over flow" is stuck in the downward position, therefore the dishwasher thinks it's going to over flow. Check that out. Otherwise I'm afraid this sounds like the circuit board is shot.

Wash motor does not run: Inlet/Drain error

Wordhog: Does sound like a siezed wash pump to me. Wash motor needs to run to get the correct level of water.

To drain a Miele dishwasher, start the machine on a cycle. All the Miele range of dishwashers drain before filling. Then hold in the start button until the end/finish light is lit. Keep doing this until all the water has gone. You could just get a jug and bail it out. Once the jug does not do the job anymore, switch to a cup, I use a very large syringe for the remaining half a litre.

Miele G646SC Plus dishwasher Drainage / inlet warning light

I had the same problem a few days ago. I followed the instructions to clean the filter and check to see that the impeller was free to rotate in both directions. The problem persisted. After reading this thread, and a similar one on another site, I tried what mikeboerma suggested in "solution #3", and bingo, problem solved. The magic combination is to push and hold the on/off button and the start/stop button.
