The original problem was, How do I attach the upholstery attachment to the cleaner. I see where
the water connection is, but not where to attach the hose part.,
The solution to attaching the upholstery attachment to the Hoover Steam Vac cleaner was excellent for steps 1 and 2. However, in step 3, I can not simply slide the upholstery attachment straight down. It gets stuck and does not connect to the bottom connector and is stuck in midair. It seems like I am doing something wrong. My Hoover model steam vac model number is F5900-900.
The solution given in steps 1,2, and 3 where I have a problem with step 3 is as follows;
What is NOT easily visible is the connection for the vacuum hose. That's because the machine needs to be "reconfigured" before the hose can be attached. To "reconfigure" the machine:
1) Remove the cover off the waste water tank and notice how things appear--it will soon be important.
2) Find and remove the "panel" on the front of the waste water tank by sliding it straight up and out.
3) Replace the panel with the connector by sliding it straight down. When finished the top should look something like it did in step 1). This assures that the dirty water will be vacuumed into the waste water tank.

Yes, you do... only the 'motor protection filter' in the bag compartment is meant to be user cleaned.
Here's a manual, with a parts diagram near the end, if it's of use.
Please rate if this helps :)

SOURCE: How to install the back
The arrows in this case should point out of the machine. not into the machine. This is because you want the black rubber seal to seal on the machine and force the air through the filter.

Testimonial: "Thanks very much. It seems to be assumed that we would be aware of the air flow, but it's not obvious to us. We appreciate your simple explanation."
