Can you please tell me where the wifi card would be on a compaq nx9005 laptop please

I don't know the location of the wireless card in your model laptop.
I have serviced quite a few laptops and have found the wireless card is either located on the bottom of the laptop behind a small panel or under the keyboard.
Try the bottom of the laptop first. Most wireless card have two wires attached to the card (aerials) and the card is held in place with two screws.

Yes , Now a days all the Laptops are comming with a hardware switch to turn ON/OFF the wireless card on the Laptop.

Please check the user manual to find the button.

For your help I can tell you that all the manufacturers used to have a wireless symbol on that button.

Wireless won't work, tells me to turn on switch, switch is on. was working now won't

Search wireless networks. If you find any, your wireless connection is working in your laptop, if not, try rebooting modem, and router and search again. If you find your network, problem solved. If it can't find none, look into your laptops device manager to verify that your wireless card is functioning properly.(No exclamations next to the adapter)

Wireless Card not working

Possibility one: defective wireless card. Possibility two: improperly installed card driver.
Possibility three: wrong card driver
Possibility four: device conflict with card
For possibility four, does the card stop working when you use another device on your machine? Try disconnecting all other connected devices outside of the laptop (printers, scanners, webcams, MP3 players, etc) and see if the issue goes away. Keep us posted.

WLAN switch button does not work

Locate your wireless card compartment on your computer. It is probably on the back of it. Your computer manual should tell you where it is. Open the compartment and locate your wlan card. Remove it from your laptop for about 30 seconds, and then reinsert it and make sure that the proper connections to it are firm and secure. Close up the compartment. Turn on your laptop. Your laptop should search and recognize it. If it doesn't, then your wireless card probably quit working on you. If your computer is still under warranty, and if it doesn't recognize it after you have tried this, then you can contact your computer manufacturer and explain to them what happened. They should replace your wireless card at no charge. If you bought the wireless card from some other store, then take it to them and explain to them, and ask for a replacement wireless card.
