Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have windows 7 installed on two of my computers and I have all three hooked up to a kvm switch. On the one computer that I have the Windows xp, I do not experience a problem, but on the two computers that have the windows 7, after a few moments of inactivity, my monitor goes blank and it takes me a lot of switching around before I can get it to come back up and show an image. I thought that if I would change the screen saver that would do the trick, but that didn't work. This does not happen in windows xp, but this is a frequent occurance in windows 7. What can I do?

If you have not done this already go to control panel and then power options then click on screen settings when to turn off the display screen. I set mine to never. Hope that assisted you. Thanks for using FixYa! Please cast a friendly vote for me. John

The two of your computer in which you have installed windows 7, it might have not supported with your computer system.
I think it is not supporting the graphic features. You can add graphic adapter.
Before adding graphics card I want to know that which type of computer configuration have you?

USB Mouse works, keyboard does not

You will need to update the drivers on the computer for the docking station. It will be the windows seven drivers or lack of them that is causing a failure to remap the usb ports that the wireless dongle is plugged into.

XP Display turns off after switching to Win 7

search for WIN 7 & KVM switch issues... you will find thousand of hits, because WIN 7 has one unique feature where it disables internal and external ports if these are not in use.

In a KVM solution setup this would mean, while you are connected everything is fine, now when you switch over to your (Lets say) WIN XP and work for 30 minutes on it... and then switch back, WIN 7 might have already scanned and seen that the USB port where the KVM cable comes in is IDLE... so it disconnected it... you cannot get it back until you reboot your WIN 7 system. Its not the KVM solution is one of those Microsoft wonder weapons that breaks what has worked for 20 years

KVM is Starview SV411. I'm Testing Windows 7. The problem occurs with all versions of Windows 7 but does not occur with previous versions of Windows nor with Linux. I set the display to 1680x1050 on...

The KVM switch you have did not support "Active Full-time DDC" which Windows 7 need to keep communicating with all connected systems over the KVM switch. Two solutions: find a DDC Ghost adapter put in between the KVM switch and connected Win 7 system. Or just replace a new KVM switch which support Full-time Active DDC function - such as ConnectPRO new PR or UR serial KVM switches.

Mouse and keyboard not recognized on second computer

Solution for the mouse. I have 8 KVM's. Most of my computers work with the KVMs. On 1 inland KVM the logitect and Microsoft optical mice do not work on one computer (but work with the other computers). They both are USB. I hook them up with a USB to PS2 adapter. If I use a ps2 ball mouse connected to the KVM the mouse works. All the Mice work if I directly connect them. Since I do not want a ball mouse I got a Frisby optical PS2 mouse. It works with all the computers on the KVM's.

I do not have a solution for the Keyboard yet. 1 computer (ASUS MB) on my trendnet or belkin 4 postion KVM does not recognize the keyboard.

KVM freeze, mouse and keyboard failure upon keypress

When ever trouble shooting a KVM that has a problem with one computer always swap the cables at the computer end -- that will tell you if you have a computer or KVM issue.
