Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Although you don't say the make and model of your particular machine, in this case it actually doesn't matter! Also there is no need to detach the hose which goes into the u-bend.
I would suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not go to spin or release the door lock if there is water still left inside.
Here are my complete and general pre-typed (!) guidance notes for checking both the drain filter and the drain motor ;-0)
-------------------------------------

If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and most are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play!

REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!

Hope the filter is the problem and good luck!

Kenmore Model 110-21102010 does not drain

Check filter is not blocked (if fitted) after draining water away by raising the washer and lowering the outlet end of the drain hose. The water should flow out into a bowl or bucket. If it does not there is probably an obstruction in the extractor pump or hose near the pump. Unplug the machine from the electrical supply, remove the back panel of the machine, and locate the extractor pump. Are there two electrical cables connected to the electrical connectors on the pump? No? Connect them (either way around) re-connect power cable and try to pump out the water make sure the machine is high enough to get a good sized bowl underneath. If cables are connected and pump does not operate, disconnect from the power supply and carefully release the clamp of the hose attached to the pump. Only allow a small amount of water to escape to start with (expect at least a couple of gallons to come out). Be ready to replace the hose if the bowl becomes near full.
Watch out for objects coming out with the water that could have been stopping the pump from turning, e.g.coins, or nuts & bolts or my pet hate cotton-buds . When all the water is drained out carefully remove all the hose connectors, and hoses, from the pump. Check that there is nothing inside the pump that would stop it from turning. if you are sure that it is clear, check the other disconnected pipes for stray objects and then reconnect to the pump, tighten the hose clips, lower the machine to ground level. Leave the back off for now, reposition the extractor hose into the domestic drain pipe and re-connect to the power supply. Select a drain cycle (or rinse cycle) and switch on. Listen for the pump running and water being pumped away down the drain pipe. Working? check the hose connections for leaks. Fine? Replace the back panel and park the washing machine back to its proper place. Not working call an electrician/washer repair man as there is an electrical problem. Remember always check ALL pockets before washing any clothes.

Washer is full of water. drain is blocked with hair or lint i believe. washed some nasty stuff. wont drain. how do i clear the blockage? i think may be blocked inside washer. drain hose is very narrow...

If you can get a garden type water hose near there, try to carefully use it to blow the water backwards through the drain hose. Put the hose up to the drain hose end and wrap a rag tightly around it and turn the water slowley. This may free up any debris from the hose and pump. If anything comes out, clean it out of the tub before you turn it back on.

My zanussi FJS1025W washing machine is showing the error code E20 and it wont let me spin or drain the water away. I have cleaned all the filter but still it wont do anything other than take in the water...

Hi,
E20 is a draining error.
Check the filter. You need to take the filter out, empty it of all lint and replace it. It may have water trapped in already, so get a cloth ready to soak up excess liquid! Also, make sure when you put it back in you have tightened it enough to avoid leaking but not too much that you cannot get it back out.

If still the problem persists then the problem is with the draining pump. The pump is not pumping out the water.Check the pump impeller it may got stuck due to some obstacles.Replace it and this wont come again.

Thank You

Water coming out of hose at home plumbing

Hello.Maybe the drain is blocked.it sounds like your machine is working ok to me,if you can hang the hose over the edge of a laundry tub & make sure the plug is out,see if the water drains away, otherwise it sounds like a plumbing problem not the machine.it started only after you moved houses so more likely the plumbing.hope i helped.

It wont drain the water away after a wash we

sounds like your pump may be gone, or could be pipe blocked. to check pipe fill machine take outlet pipe at rear of machine and lay this into a bowl. If water flows ok then all pipes are clear. As water is coming through just put machine onto spin cycle and raise hose to see if water will then pump out.

ALL FUNCTIONS OF WASH CYCLE WORK EXCEPT WATER WONT DRAIN AND SPIN CYCLE WONT WORK,

Pump is blocked or shot

Pressure switch made telling the machine it is full of water hence no spin.

Drop hose into bucket to drain the water off and the machine should spin, you may be better dragging the washer to an outside door and let all of the water run away at once .

Make sure that the drain hose is unclipped from the back of the machine so that the bottom of the hose is as low as you can get it

Wont retain supply water

Hi, First thing to look for is that you drain hose is higher then the water level in the washer. If your darin hose is laying down near the sump pump, make sure the end is not laying in the water in the sump. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can help further.

Thanks

Bosch WFF1201 Washing Machine, wont drain

To access the pump filter, remove lower plastic panel at front of washer, there you will see the filter, unscrew filter cover anti clockwise, remove and clean filter.
You will probably find that whatever was causing the clicking noise is something in the filter.
If you can't see anything in it , then have a look inside the pump housing before you replace filter.
Plz rate my solution .
Thanks.

Sounds like a relay on the board. Have you tried to reset the machine by switching it off at the wall and leaving it for about 20 seconds before switching on again?
