I have a new ranghood with a 150mm duct, how can I connect this to the existing 125mm duct in my kitchen

If this is a circular duct there are 125 to 150 mm adaptors / reducers available at most home DIY stores.

This should be what you need. It would be a matter of finding your local source for the reducer / adapter.

What is the minimum distance from the top of oven to the bottom of microwave

It depends greatly on the ventilation but if you use 20" above the hob, as a good starting point. If you have extractor fans, maybe less. Don't forget the grill gets hot on top of the oven but there should be at least 10" clearence between the grill top and the microwave base, more if it is gas!

Good morning We are about to fit a rangemaster classic hood 120cm approx. to suit our Elan 110 dual fuel cooker with a gas hob. What is the corrrect distance we should leave between the hob and...

In my experience, the hood should be just above head height, that will avoid banging your head, and at least 33 inches or 8ocm above the hob.
Hope this helps.

I Have a GE Micro JVM2070. When I boil water on the stove the water vapor shorts out the Micro. It then turns it self on or doesn't work at all. If I unplug it it might work in a few days.

One would think that you would have the sense to use the extractor that is above your stove and under your microwave, would you use a laptop in a sauna!!! no wonder the thing is shorting out. Contact the person who fitted the microwave. always use the extractor when you boil things on the hob.
I live in England it is illegal to have a microwave above a hob for this exact reason. America will catch up eventually with building regulations!!

Change the venting from internal to external?

Hello staufferbi,
It is possible to redirect the vent to the outsied but it is not a simple task. First off, you will need to remove the micro from the wall cavity and reposition the blower so that it vents out the top and not the front, then cut a hole in the cabinet above the micro ( lined up to accept the rectangular duct ) These tasks require fairly good carpenmtry skills and may not be suitable for the novice.. In any event, if you do attempt this.. then once you have the duct vented through the cabinet from the top of the microm you will need to attach that to wall vent feedthru. This normally means converting the rectangular duct to 4inch round and using an elbow. Needless to say, it can be done but is fairly involved. I did not mention anything about getting a 4 inch hole thru the outside wall and not thru a wall stud.,. Outside walls are typically bearing walls and although your roof won't cave in if you cut a hole thru a stud, it isn't advisable. Then you have to make sure it is sealed thru the wall cavity and properly cut into your siding. As I said before..it can be done but don't think it is a little job..
Good luck
Rick

Installation of GE Microwave Oven

We have changed out a GE for another same brand, newer model. You will need two people to make the change-one of the two must be strong enough to support the unit after you remove the 3 bolts that hold it into the cabinet above. You will see these screws in the bottom shelf of the cabinet above your unit. A driver drill w/ the socket attachment to fit these "screws" would make it go faster. You'll need a step stool or a step ladder to get above the unit. There is a power cord that plugs into an outlet-make sure you have unplugged this before starting. While one is supporting the unit, the other is unscrewing the three bolts, When screws are out, the person on the ladder should come down and help w/ the unit removal. The unit is tipped forward to release it from the wall, as it is hooked into a bracket affixed to the wall. When you tip it forward, both of you should be prepared to lift it off the bracket. It helps to have the way cleared and a table or countertop ready on which to set it. BTW, My microwave installer did not use the flange provided to seal the vent around the cutout in the lower shelf of the upper cabinet. Removing ours, I can see why, there is no way to get the unit lined up w/ the flange and the duct and still tip it into the provided cut out. We bought metal sticky duct tape to seal it, and used the opportunity to reseal the above cut outs as well. I think some cabinets are constructed around the microwave installation, and if so, you could use the existing flange set up. When you are ready to put in the new one, do it in reverse, but schedule some clean up time in between, the grease finds a way of eluding all systems and you'll want to 409 it before putting in your new one. If this is too mu8ch for you, ask an installer or a neighbor to help-it doesn't require an electrician. You might want to ok into what GE is doing these days so your aren't dissappointed w/ the new unit after such a successful run with your first purchase.
