My guess would be that the drive is partitioned and you are only seeing the 30 gig partition. If possible I would backup the drive, and format the entire hard drive and start from scratch.

Bios cannot read hard drive

Hi Robert,

IT could be that the Barracuda drive is formatted for boot up. I would boot up with the drive that boots, and make the Barracuda a spare drive, so you can go in and first see if has any issues as a drive,(meaning sector 0 errors, and if you can access it, then you can format it as a boot up drive, or get what data on that drive off for your friend.

Good Luck Mark

My hard disk capacity is 80GB. It is seagate barracuda 7200.9, it is showing 32 gb instead of 80gb. I dont know how to fix this, but reading some experts answers i came to conclusion that this is a jumper...

Indeed. The problem is that you put the jumper and it limited the capacity of the hard drive to 32 gb.

Here is a picture that will help you put the jumper in the exact place:

Thx for your kind offering to me. I already call my friend to help me here. And he seems already found the solution. The problem was comes from USB cable malfuction, and I think it somehow affect the firmware detection. Gladly he can back up it again with another harddisk, just try to baiting it to make the firmware read. Now I'm still waiting for data recovery only. Barracuda hard disk 80gb

the first boot sector of the hard drive is corrupt so fdisk wont work
please use software to repair the boot sectors zero and 63.
usually the softwares are superfdisk which is free on net.

also if you fail use seagate disk manager bootable version. it will be very quick and handy in long term too to format seagate hard drives

If your running XP , go to control panal , Admin tools>Computer Management >Storage > Disk Management . Look for it there . If its there see if it says what file system . If none format it . If it isnt there then chack the jumper on the hard drive it self . It should be set to master or cable select .
